According to the information released by J-PlatPat, a patent information platform operated and managed by INPIT, an independent administrative legal person in Japan, the patent content of Sony Wireless using PlayStationVR equipment has been approved and is expected to be applied to the next PlayStationVR equipment.
At present, there is not much information about the new PlayStationVR equipment, so it is not yet possible to confirm whether the actual name will be PlayStationVR2. However, from the patent content and the current development of HTCVIVE and OculusRift to wireless form, it means that Sony may also change the PlayStationVR device to wireless design.
According to the description of related patents, Sony plans to send frequencies between 5 GHz and 60 GHz to external devices, thus establishing the connection between PlayStationVR devices and PlayStation hosts. Due to the wide frequency coverage, the new PlayStationVR device may support multi-person simultaneous connection and playback mode, which seems to mean that the upcoming PlayStation5 will be able to display the output performance corresponding to higher computing.
As for choosing the connection frequency between 5GHz and 60GHz, it may be based on different connection requirements. The 5 GHz band will ensure the stability of data connection, while the 60 GHz band can support higher data transmission. The new PlayStationVR device may be able to switch different wireless connection frequency bands according to different connection requirements.
Although Sony's discussion of PlayStationVR application content was low last year, it did not give up the plan to develop PlayStationVR products and virtual reality content applications, so it is expected that more virtual reality-related application modes will be seen in the next PlayStation5.
