The laboratory has a spacious experimental office building and modern instruments and equipment. The laboratory purchased several sets of modern instruments and equipment with the loan of the World Bank10.20 million US dollars, the construction fund of "21Key Discipline"10.60 million yuan, the construction fund of the "most important" physical geography department in Shanghai and the equipment renovation fee allocated by the Ministry of Science and Technology. These include ADCP acoustic current profiler for measuring current, wave and tide, Entco 174SSM self-counting current meter for measuring temperature, salinity and depth, SBE26 wave meter, SBE25CDT, 449DF thermosensitive dual-frequency sounder for measuring water depth and suspended sediment, OBS-3 turbidity meter and acoustic suspended sediment meter for measuring sediment concentration, and 3050-II side for measuring underwater topography. GEOChirp shallow stratum profiling system for detecting shallow seabed structures, 1008/586 global positioning system (GPS) for precise positioning, GBX-PRO differential locator, YSI 16920 multi-parameter water quality detector, shallow water current meter (2D-ACM), LISST-25 laser sand meter, ADV three-dimensional current meter and optical backscattering. And gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), flow cytometry (FCM), photon detection system, plasma emission spectrometer (ICP), Varian gas chromatograph, LS 100Q laser particle size analyzer, alternating demagnetizer, automatic nutrient analyzer, atomic absorption spectrometer, hydrocarbon, nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen element analyzer and high performance liquid chromatograph. There are also wave and slope sediment flume, workstation network system and geographic information and image processing system which integrates geographic information system, remote sensing image processing system and map publishing system.
