Empowering the industry through 5G base station baseband chips
At the press conference on the development of industrial communication industry in the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China, Minister of Industry and Information Technology Miao Wei said that in the future, 5G applications will be distributed in 28 laws, of which 80% will be used in the field of industrial Internet. 5G with high bandwidth, large connection and low latency will break many technical barriers in the industry and pave the way for the digital, interconnected and intelligent technological development of B-end enterprises. Song Defeng, head of SMIC, also said in an interview that 5G will solve the problem of high latency in scenes including car networking, VR, ar, process automation, precision industry and telemedicine.
As the core equipment of 5G network, 5G base station provides wireless coverage and realizes wireless signal transmission between wired communication network and wireless terminal. Among them, the 5G baseband chip is used to control the network of 5G base stations, and the network signal strength usually refers to the quality of this chip. With the approaching of the 5G era, the baseband chip of the 5G base station is becoming more and more important, and it will become the key to connecting all 5G networks.
At present, there are two groups of 5G frequencies recognized by the industry. One is below 6GHz, which refers to all frequency bands below 6 GHz. This is the most basic frequency band in the early stage of 5G, and it is considered as an extension of 4G. The second is millimeter wave, the frequency range is from 26 GHz to 40 GHz, which is the main working frequency band in the mature period of 5G. Its advantages are providing low delay, supporting a large number of users and accurate positioning, but its disadvantages are small coverage, weak ability to penetrate obstacles and the need for more professional antenna tuning. Core semiconductor products can cover Sub-6GHz and meet the requirements of millimeter wave (28GHz).
Song Defeng introduced that at present, Core Semiconductor has two products, one is a low-latency 5G+AI base station baseband chip (mainly in vertical low-latency and private network fields), and the other is a 5G+AI base station baseband chip (mainly in low power consumption and public network fields). Sparq-2020(SoC) is a low-latency baseband chip of 5G base station. On the one hand, it conforms to the 3GPP standard of mobile communication (Rel- 15), including the physical layer (PHY) and data link layer -layer 1 (MAC) of 5G mobile communication (1 and layer 2 of air interface technology). On the other hand, the delay is less than 0. 1ms, the one-way delay is only 0.093 microseconds, and the two-way delay is 0.35 microseconds, which is far lower than the top companies on the market. And can achieve centimeter-level UE positioning accuracy, and at the same time can meet the eMBB (large capacity, large bandwidth) requirements required by current manufacturers; The low-power 5G+AI base station baseband chip is mainly RISC-V, which is characterized by low power consumption, low cost and open interface. The cost is only 50% of the current mainstream chip price, and the power consumption is less than 50%. It is expected to go online at the end of 20021.
Actively layout around 5G small base stations
As we all know, 5G has the advantage of subverting and innovating thousands of industries. Insiders pointed out that it is estimated that more than 70% of the business needs of the three major scenarios of 5G (including eMBB, URLLC and mMTC) will come from indoors. After the popularization of vertical business demand in the 5G era, except for some application fields that must be carried out outdoors, such as autonomous driving and industrial Internet of Things, most of them, such as the Internet, distance education and telemedicine, come from indoors.
This business scenario puts forward higher standards for indoor business requirements of 5G, mainly reflected in network capabilities, including transmission speed and delay. Therefore, the indoor coverage scheme of 4G cannot meet the indoor coverage requirements of 5G.
Under such circumstances, the advantages of rich product forms of 5G small base stations will be greatly highlighted. As an effective extension of Hong Jizhan data signal, it can not only improve indoor wireless network coverage, but also be combined with MEC and other technologies to become the best solution to achieve indoor coverage.
Song Defeng said in an interview that at this stage, Core Semiconductor mainly focuses on domestic, foreign and small base station markets. China has established cooperative relations with ODM manufacturers in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Taiwan Province. Overseas, mainly in Europe, Motorola and Corning are using core semiconductor products.
