What is the origin of the FX-05 assault rifle?

FX-05 is the Aztec abbreviation for "Fusil Xiuhcoatl 2005" (Fusil Xiuhcoatl 2005). There is little public information about this gun, but it seems that hundreds of them have been distributed. Different units were involved, including the Mexican Special Airborne Group (GAFE) and the military police. The gun was probably completed in design and production preparation after 2005. It is said that the development of FX-05 was carried out by the Exploration and Development Military Technology Center or Research Center (CIADTIM) under the leadership of the country's military chiefs, General Oropeza Gamicia and General Iztiga Landeros. Responsible, and the whole process only took 16 months. Engineers on the project team are said to have studied weapons design in Portugal and France, while production equipment was imported from Germany. As part of the six-year plan, the national military industry will produce about 10,000 FX-05s each year, with the total production volume expected to be 60,000.

The initial rumor was that the Mexican government originally planned to imitate the G36. The Mexicans had already tested the G36, and Mexico had long-term licenses to imitate HK's early products (P7M13 pistol, G3 rifle, MP5 submachine gun and HK21 machine gun). , but ultimately did not reach a licensing agreement with HK Company to establish a G36 production line in Mexico. So Mexico changed the appearance of the G36 and designed its own new rifle. It is said that all the funds for the development of this new rifle came from donations from entrepreneurs in the country. However, there are also rumors that the Mexican Navy provided funds as early as 2003 for the military industry department to develop a new rifle and planned to adopt it from 2004 to 2005. There are also reports It refers to the Mexican Defense Secretariat (Secretar a de la Defensa Nacional) applying for funds from the national credit department in 2004, and finally received an initial investment of US$45 million to purchase the G36 design and transfer production technology from HK Company.

On February 1, 2007, representatives of the Mexican Defense Secretariat and representatives of HK met in Mexico City to resolve the accusations from the German company. The accusation claims that the Mexican army "unauthorizedly copied" the design of the G36 rifle. After viewing the design details of the FX-05, HK representatives admitted that despite the similarities, there was no patent infringement between the two rifles and HK would not sue.

The FX-05 rifle adopts a modular design and is ergonomically optimized based on the physique of most Mexican soldiers. Its polymer receiver and frame come in two basic colors (dark green and sandy yellow), and are equipped with a plastic stock that folds to the right side to reduce its overall size and make it easier to carry, and it is adjustable in length. The design of the telescopic mechanism is similar to that of an M4 carbine, and the folding angle is similar to that of the FN SCAR. The receiver is composed of polymer and carbon fiber embedded with a steel frame (the G36's receiver is made of polymer embedded with a steel frame), and the internal mechanism is made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel. The handguard is equipped with a Picatinny rail to facilitate the installation of laser pointers, tactical lights, foregrips and other accessories, and can also hang an AG36 grenade launcher. The top of the rifle receiver is equipped with a sight rail, which can be used to install a variety of red dot sights, telescopic sights, and mechanical sights, or an integrated optical sight (which is actually very similar to the G36 after installation).

The caliber of the gun is 5.56*45 mm NATO, and uses a G36-style 30-round plastic magazine, and it seems to be universal. The disassembly system of the rifle is very similar to that of the G36, and the shape of the receiver is also very similar, but the structural principles are quite different. For example, the gas guide device of the FX-05 is a long-stroke gas piston similar to the AK, but it also uses a roller delayed unlock similar to the G3 rifle. In addition, its charging handle design is similar to FN SCAR. The speed machine has three positions: safety, single shot and continuous shot.

The basic design of the FX-05 seems to use a 318 mm long barrel. Other special models have a 229 mm long barrel (compact type) and a 508 mm SAW type. The barrel is cold forged from stainless steel. into, polygonal rifling. The standard rifle weighs about 2.65 kilograms and has a rate of fire of about 700 to 750 rpm.

The FX-05 exhibited in the 2006 military parade was carried by two elite military units in two models each. One has mechanical sights and the other is an integral sight with a carrying handle.
