Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica

For example, the initial onset of sores and swelling is treated in Criterion for Syndrome Treatment, and it is mixed with raw Rhizoma Arisaematis, raw Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii, Alumen and Semen Phaseoli as fine powder, and mixed with light vinegar. If it is mixed with snake slough, astragalus root, Huang Dan and Scrophularia root for external use, it can treat scrofula, such as honeycomb ointment (Sheng Hui Fang). "Sheng Hui Fang" also takes this as the end, adjusting pig fat to rub and treat tinea and sores on the head. To treat cancer, it can be combined with zedoary, scorpion and silkworm.

If it is used together with Radix Aconiti and Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii, it can be used to treat rheumatism and arthralgia by soaking the sore with ethanol, or it can be mixed with Scorpio, Scolopendra and Eupolyphaga Seu Steleophaga, and ground into pills to treat arthritis and osteomyelitis (Application of Insect Drugs). Treatment of toothache can be combined with decoction of asarum for gargling, and Puji Fang contains more than a dozen prescriptions for toothache, mainly honeycomb. For rubella itching, it is often used with cicada skin.

It is also reported that 158 cases of chronic rhinitis and 65 cases of chronic parasinusitis were treated by decocting the honeycomb in water and concentrating it into thick paste and tabletting, and the effective rates were 85% and 72% respectively.
