Insulators are divided into glass, ceramics and composite insulators. What are their advantages and disadvantages?

Glass, ceramics and composite insulators are commonly used insulator materials in power equipment, which have different characteristics and application scope. The following are their advantages and disadvantages:

1. glass insulator

Advantages:

Good antifouling performance, not easy to form corona, arc and other phenomena on the surface.

Good moisture resistance, can be used in humid environment.

High mechanical strength and elastic modulus, able to bear certain mechanical load.

Light weight, easy to install and maintain.

The cost is relatively low.

Disadvantages:

Not heat-resistant, can not be used for a long time in high temperature environment.

Fragile, easily broken by external force such as impact or vibration.

Insulation performance will decrease with time.

2. Ceramic insulator

Advantages:

High temperature resistance, can be used in high temperature environment for a long time.

Good shock resistance and vibration resistance, not easy to break.

The insulation performance is stable and does not decrease with time.

Good corrosion resistance, suitable for the environment where chemicals such as acid, alkali and salt exist.

Disadvantages:

Not wear-resistant, easy to form small cracks on the contact surface.

It is heavy and difficult to install and maintain.

The cost is relatively high.

3. Composite insulator

Advantages:

Light weight, easy to install and maintain.

Good shock resistance and vibration resistance, not easy to break.

Good pollution resistance, and corona and arc are not easy to form on the surface.

The insulation performance is stable and does not decrease with time.

Insulators with different shapes and specifications can be designed as required.

Disadvantages:

The cost is relatively high.

High temperature resistance and corrosion resistance may not be as good as ceramic insulators.

Appropriate insulator materials need to be selected according to the actual use environment and requirements.
