The Development Achievements of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of Nanjing University

1995-2000 is a period of steady development of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. It has undertaken three 863 plans, two climbing plans and two major national basic research and development planning projects (973). Taking the State Key Laboratory of Solid Microstructure Physics as the source of material exploration, an innovative system from physical effect to material design to device application has been formed around several achievements with great application prospects, and a number of devices, materials and technologies with independent intellectual property rights have been obtained. For example, the ferroelectric superlattice broadband UHF acoustic device was successfully developed and evaluated as "a masterpiece with international advanced level" by the "863" expert group; Start long-term cooperative research with Motorola in the United States; Successfully developed multifunctional all-oxide heterostructure materials and devices; The "ionic phononic crystal" was put forward and developed successfully for the first time, which extended the infrared optical properties (THz frequency) of classical ionic crystals to the microwave (GHz frequency) band, opened up a new direction for the development of optoelectronic materials and devices in the microwave band, and was listed as one of the most representative research achievements of China scientists (Ministry of Science and Technology) and one of the top ten scientific and technological advances of China universities (Ministry of Education) by the China Science and Technology Development Report in 2000. In the preparation and synthesis of materials, in-situ low-voltage electric field induced directional growth technology, laser crystallization and etching micromachining technology, ferroelectric domain artificial modulation preparation technology and so on have been developed. These innovations have applied for 8 patents (4 of which have been authorized). At the same time, 230 SCI papers were published (two of which were published in Science), which contributed to expanding the international influence of China's materials science research. In 2000, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering received a doctorate in materials physics and chemistry.

From 200 1 to 2006, the department of materials science and engineering entered a period of rapid development. This project was strongly supported by the 985 and 2 1 1 projects, and the school invested nearly 22 million yuan to establish a material preparation platform, a material characterization and evaluation center, a nano-micron processing platform and a material design platform. Environmental materials and renewable energy research center was established. In 2003, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering received a doctorate in materials science. In 2005, the discipline of materials physics and chemistry became the key discipline in Jiangsu Province and entered the national key discipline cultivation point in Jiangsu Province. In the meantime, he mainly undertook 6 national 863 plans, 6 national 973 plans and 29 national natural science foundation projects, and cooperated with Motorola, Rohm &; Well-known companies such as Haas have carried out international cooperative research and undertaken local government and enterprise projects in Jiangsu, with research funds totaling more than 39 million yuan.

In terms of teaching, the published Introduction to Materials Science and its Teaching Practice won the first prize of Jiangsu higher education teaching achievement and the second prize of national teaching achievement in 2004. This topic is the chairman of "200 1-2005 Teaching Steering Committee of Materials Science and Engineering in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education", presiding over the revision of undergraduate training plan and curriculum system.
