Recently, 5G has become a key focus in the communications field, and related technology companies are rushing to deploy in the 5G field. It is a pity that in the 5G era, China's Huawei has also tried its best and separated from the 5G standard by one vote. The coding scheme of the future data channel will use Qualcomm LFPC technology.
It is a foregone conclusion that American companies will dominate 5G technical standards, which means that all mobile phones that support 5G networks in the future will need to be reviewed and approved by Qualcomm and paid for. At the same time, Qualcomm also announced the licensing rate for 5G patent authorization. Equipment that fully meets 3GPP Release 15 must pay patent fees.
Qualcomm’s fees for using 5G patents are as follows: the patent royalty rate for single-mode 5G mobile phones is 2.275%; the patent royalty rate for multi-mode (3G/4G/5G) mobile phones is 3.25%. In other words, every time a mobile phone is sold, a patent fee will be paid to Qualcomm.
In China, multi-mode mobile phones are basically the basis, and a single mobile phone costs 32.5 yuan for every 1,000 yuan. In 2017, Huawei, OPPO, VIVO, and Xiaomi represented domestic 4G mobile phone shipments of 462 million units. Based on an average price of 2,000 yuan, domestic manufacturers may have to pay Qualcomm patent fees of up to 30 billion yuan each year.
