Zhang Qisheng was born in Chun'an County, Zhejiang Province in January 1939. He graduated from Yanzhou Middle School in Zhejiang Province in 1956 and from Nanjing Forestry University in 1961, majoring in wood processing. He is currently a professor at Nanjing Forestry University and a professor at Zhejiang University. Honorary President of the Forestry College and member of the Expert Advisory Committee of the State Forestry Administration. In November 1997, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He has been engaged in research and teaching on the processing and utilization of wood and bamboo for a long time. He insists on scientific and technological innovation and attaches great importance to the combination of scientific research and economy. The "Research on New Technology of Pencil Board" he has presided over has won the first prize of Tianjin Excellent Scientific and Technological Achievements and the third prize of National Invention. Award; "Research and Promotion of Bamboo Plywood" won the first prize of the Ministry of Forestry's Science and Technology Progress Award, the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and the National Invention Patent Gold Award; "Research and Promotion of Southern Poplar Wood Processing Technology" won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award Award; "Research and Application of Larch Tannin Phenolic Resin Adhesive" won the second prize of the National Invention Award; "Research and Demonstration of Key Technologies for Manufacturing Bamboo Engineering Materials" won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (third person); "Key technologies for bamboo charcoal production, mechanism of action and development and application of series products" won the first prize of Zhejiang Province Science and Technology Progress Award, the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award; and also won the Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Award. He has made important contributions to the development of China's wood and bamboo processing industry and is a pioneer in the field of bamboo processing and utilization in China and the world. Recently, he is engaged in the research and application of biomass energy polygeneration technology, exploring a new way to utilize multiple products and high added value for wood "three residues" and crop straw. He is rigorous in his scholarship and diligent in his work. He has published more than 100 academic papers, 8 monographs, and translated works; he has obtained 16 invention patents; and he has trained more than 30 master's and doctoral students. Won the honorary titles of National Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Science and Technology Experts with Outstanding Contributions, National Spark Science and Technology Advanced Worker, National Science and Technology Promotion Advanced Worker, Jiangsu Province Outstanding Communist Party Member Model, Jiangsu Province Model Worker, etc., and enjoys special government subsidies.
