Selection of special taps for wire thread inserts and thread insert taps

1. Straight-fluted taps for wire thread inserts. Straight-fluted taps used for processing and installing internal threads for wire thread inserts. This kind of tap is very versatile and can be used in through holes or blind holes, non-ferrous metals or ferrous metals. The price is relatively cheap, but it is poorly targeted. It can do everything, but it is not the best at anything. The cutting part can have 2, 4, or 6 teeth. The short taper is used for blind holes and the long taper is used for through holes.

2. Spiral fluted taps for wire thread inserts are used to process and install internal threads for wire thread inserts. This kind of tap is usually suitable for processing blind hole internal threads, and the chips are discharged backward during processing. The difference between spiral flute taps and straight flute taps is that the grooves of straight flute taps are linear, while the grooves of spiral flute taps are spiral. When tapping, the rising and rotating action of the spiral flute can easily discharge the chips. outside the hole to prevent chips from remaining or blocking the groove, causing the tap to break and the blade to crack. Therefore, the spiral groove can extend the life of the tap, and can cut higher-precision internal threads, and the cutting speed is also faster than that of straight-flute taps. . But it is not suitable for blind hole processing of materials such as cast iron that are chipped into fine pieces.

3. Extrusion taps for wire thread inserts are used to process and install internal threads for wire thread inserts. This type of tap is also called a grooveless tap or a chipless tap, and is more suitable for processing materials with good plasticity such as non-ferrous metals and low-strength ferrous metals. The working principle of cutting is different from that of straight flute taps and spiral flute taps. It extrudes and deforms metal to form internal threads. The threaded hole processed by the extrusion tap has high tensile resistance, shear resistance, high strength, and the roughness of the processed surface is also good, but the extrusion tap requires that the material processed has a certain plasticity. For threaded hole processing of the same specifications, the prefabricated holes of extrusion taps are smaller than those of straight flute taps and spiral flute taps.

4. Spiral-point taps are more suitable for processing through-hole threads, and the cutting is discharged forward during processing. The solid core part has larger size, better strength and larger cutting force, so it is very effective in processing non-ferrous metals, stainless steel and ferrous metals.
