Recently, Amazon released its fourth quarter and full-year financial reports for 2021. In the fourth quarter of last year, Amazon’s net sales were US$137.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9%, slightly lower than analysts’ expectations; operating profit was US$3.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 98%; net profit was US$14.3 billion, almost double the same period last year. For the whole year, Amazon's net sales in 2021 were US$469.8 billion, an increase of 22% compared with US$386.1 billion in 2020; operating profit increased to US$24.9 billion, compared with US$22.9 billion in 2020; net profit increased to US$33.4 billion , $21.3 billion in 2020. In the fourth quarter of last year, Amazon's North American division had net sales of US$82.36 billion, higher than the same period last year; operating losses were US$206 million, compared with US$2.95 billion in operating profits in the same period last year. Net sales of the international segment were US$37.27 billion, almost the same as the previous year; operating losses were US$1.63 billion, compared with US$363 million in the same period last year. Net sales of cloud services were US$17.78 billion, a year-on-year increase of nearly 40%; operating profit was US$5.29 billion, higher than US$3.56 billion in the same period last year. In addition, advertising sales increased 32% to $9.71 billion in the quarter.
