English name: solid content
Solid content is the mass percentage of the rest of the emulsion or paint after drying under specified conditions. In fact, it is more accurate to call it "non-volatile content"
solid content is a commonly used term in emulsion polymerization, such as theoretical solid content. If 3g monomer and 7g water are added to the system, the theoretical solid content will be 3%. If the monomer conversion rate is not very high, the theoretical solid content will be different from the actual solid content, such as vinyl acetate, which has a low boiling point. You can take a certain quality emulsion, add a little polymerization inhibitor, and then evaporate the solvent and unreacted monomer to determine the mass ratio before and after heating.
There is no clear definition of high-solid emulsion. Generally speaking, it is considered as high-solid emulsion with a solid content of more than 6%. Compared with the common emulsion with a solid content of less than 5%, it has the advantages of high production efficiency, low transportation cost, fast drying and low energy consumption, and has become the research focus of many researchers.
The solid content is not only film-forming substances, but also fillers and additives.
