How to submit an EU patent application for design?

There are two ways to apply directly to the EU Intellectual Property Office: online application and paper application. Online application is cheaper and faster, and you can get registration in a few days. The EU Intellectual Property Office also has a fast online application channel, which is faster and can be registered within 2 days at the earliest.

The European Intellectual Property Office adopts Locarno classification. When submitting the application, you need to submit the owner, product Locarno classification, product name, product description, design drawings and other information. An application can contain multiple designs, but all products must usually belong to the same Locarno classification except for decorative designs.

When submitting the application, you can also apply for the registration and publicity of the design at the same time, and postpone it to 30 months at the latest from the application date (including the priority date). Delayed publication can enjoy the benefits of registration, and keep the confidentiality of the design for a period of time. However, if the application for publication has not been filed for more than 30 months, the registration will be invalid.

Applicants who have no main business premises, real and effective industrial and commercial premises or residences in EU countries need to entrust an agent.
