The Department of Aquatic Germplasm Resources and Genetic Breeding now includes the Laboratory of Aquatic Germplasm Resources and the Department of Genetic Breeding and Biotechnology.

The Laboratory of Aquatic Animal Germplasm Resources, founded by Professor Li Sifa, is the earliest laboratory of aquatic animal germplasm resources in China. Mainly engaged in the research of aquatic animal germplasm resources and seedling engineering, that is, with the help of the theories, methods and technical means of morphology, aquaculture biology, cytogenetics, biochemical genetics, molecular genetics and quantitative genetics, we study the germplasm characteristics of aquatic animals in China at the level of population, individual, cell and molecule, establish the identification standards and technical methods of aquatic animal germplasm, and carry out germplasm innovation and protection on the basis of germplasm research. In 1980s, the research office took the lead in "Research on the Germplasm Resources of Silver Carp, Bighead Carp and Grass Carp in Yangtze River, Pearl River and Heilongjiang", which initiated the research on the Germplasm Resources of Aquatic Animals in China. Since then, the research object of germplasm resources has also expanded from the "four major fish" to the Chinese soft-shelled turtle, bream, tilapia, colored carp, river crab, freshwater shrimp, HYRIOPSIS cumingii, SINONOVACULA constricta and so on. In terms of germplasm innovation, new varieties such as Megalobrama amblycephala "Pujiang 1", "Xinjifu" tilapia and "Le Kang mussel" were cultivated. At the same time, the research office of aquatic animal germplasm resources is still planning the aquatic seedling project and the construction of aquatic stock system in China, and actively serves the planning, construction and germplasm inspection of aquatic stock farms in China.

The Department of Genetics, Breeding and Biotechnology was formerly the Department of Tissue Embryology under the Department of Animal Physiology and Biochemistry before the Cultural Revolution. At that time, the teaching and research group had a strong faculty, including Zheng Dechong, Cai Weiyuan, Lou Yundong, Zhang, Zhang Kejian and Jiang. At present, the teaching and research section of our college mainly undertakes the professional construction and teaching work of biotechnology undergraduate in our college, and is engaged in the research work of aquatic biology genetics and breeding and biotechnology. Undergraduate teaching includes histology and embryology, genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, genetic engineering, bioengineering, aquatic animal breeding and so on.

Since 1980, the department has successively presided over the national scientific and technological tackling key problems, the scientific and technological support plan, the 863 plan, the national natural science foundation, the municipal scientific research projects and international cooperation projects. , and has a profound research foundation and extensive international contacts. He has published more than 400 papers in domestic and foreign journals, edited 4 monographs/kloc-0, 9 patents and formulated 23 national standards. Won the National Science and Technology Progress Award 1 item, Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award 2 items, second prize 1 item, third prize 1 item, ministerial science and technology progress award 3 items, third prize 1 item, and other provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions 5 items.
