The State Key Laboratory of Forest Tree Genetics and Breeding was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology on 20110. This is the first State Key Laboratory of Forestry Industry jointly established by the State Forestry Administration and the universities affiliated to the Ministry of Education. Since the construction was approved, according to the huge demand of forestry development in China and the development trend of disciplines, the laboratory has carried out characteristic applied basic research in three directions: innovative utilization of forest germplasm, molecular basis of formation of important characters of trees and molecular breeding of trees, and made important progress in efficient transformation technology of poplar multi-genes, expression mode and functional analysis of poplar auxin transporter PIN gene family. During the construction of the laboratory, SCI published 106 papers, 8 monographs, authorized invention patents 15, 26 improved forest varieties approved by the state, 6 new protected plant varieties 16, and 2 second prizes of national scientific and technological progress.
The acceptance expert group believes that the laboratory has completed the construction task of the State Key Laboratory and achieved the expected construction goal. At the acceptance meeting, experts also put forward suggestions on further strengthening the cooperation between universities and the construction of talent teams.
