Windows 98 service support has stopped.

On June 4th, 2003, Andy Boyd, user download plan manager of Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN), announced in a public news group that according to the settlement agreement reached between Microsoft and Sun in 20001year, from June 5438+February 15, users of Microsoft MSDN will gradually stop downloading including windows 98. These products are no longer available in Microsoft MSDN sales channels. It's time for us to say goodbye to windows 98.

These products that will be eliminated are all products embedded with Java virtual machine technology. Sun, which owns Java, sued Microsoft with 1998, accusing Microsoft of improper use of Sun's Java technology. Sun and Microsoft reached a settlement on this lawsuit on 200 1. Microsoft paid $20 million to Sun and promised to phase out those products that used the old version of Java technology that infringed Sun's patents and trademarks.

Since July 1 1, 2006, Windows 98 has stopped major security updates.
