The project of "ring-opening polymerized phenolic resin and fiber reinforced composite materials" won the second prize of scientific and technological progress of the Ministry of Education in June 2003. Two new glass cloth laminates, 155 grade and 180 grade, which are formed by ring-opening polymerization of new phenolic resin, have formed a production scale of 300 tons/year in Sichuan Dongfang Insulation Materials Co., Ltd., and the two laminates have been used as insulation materials for motors and transformers, rotary blades of vacuum pumps, valve blades of compressors and various machine parts. The "low-cost, high-performance benzoxazine intermediate" developed by him has advanced level at home and abroad, and has been put into industrial production, achieving good economic and social benefits. High Tg halogen-free flame-retardant hard printed circuit board was put into production in Guangdong Hongren Electronic Industry Co., Ltd., and its products were sold to Japan.
In 2005, we exported a proprietary technology of "synthesis of low viscosity benzoxazine resin for RTM molding" to an American company, and obtained a transfer fee of $65,438 +0.5 million (the first technology export project of our school).

After the establishment of the college, due to physical reasons, he did not serve as the dean, so he could correctly treat the job change and take care of the overall situation. He is still very concerned about the construction of the college and actively supports the work of the new team of the college. As the deputy director of the professors' committee, he offered suggestions for discipline development planning and the construction of teaching staff.
No matter what his job is, he strives for perfection and is willing to make contributions. He used his diligence and hard work to embody his ethics in every job and everything around him. Because of his long-term commitment to teaching, scientific research and management, he suffers from hypertension, coronary heart disease and other diseases, but he still insists on working and rarely takes a rest on holidays. It has almost become a well-known system of Professor Gu Yi's research group to arrange academic activities, discuss scientific research work, organize graduate students to give academic reports or give individual guidance to graduate students every Saturday. Especially from 2003 to the beginning of 2006, Professor Gu Yi's wife was diagnosed with peritoneal cancer and was hospitalized for several times for surgery and chemotherapy. Despite the multiple pressures of illness, fatigue and spirit, Professor Gu Yi persisted in completing various teaching and scientific research tasks. He said that the research group needed him, the students needed him, and he couldn't fall down any more, so he gritted his teeth and survived. Seeing Gu's work attitude and style, the students were deeply moved and consciously set strict demands on themselves to do all the studies and work that Gu explained.
Professor Gu Yi is rigorous in his studies, realistic and innovative, with noble academic ethics and high scientific research level. He is meticulous and pragmatic academically and strict with his students. Sometimes he criticizes students mercilessly, but he also patiently guides students, encourages and supports them to make progress. Professor Gu Yi and his wife helped to contact a doctor. During the students' hospitalization, Professor Gu Yi and his wife took turns to take care of and visit the hospital, so that the students could recover as soon as possible and return to their studies and jobs. Many students are afraid that Mr. Gu is "strict", but there are also many students who think that only Mr. Yan can produce excellent students and learn real talents. Therefore, in recent years, more and more students have applied for the master's degree and doctoral degree of Professor Gu Yi.
