Zhang Weidong’s research direction

The work direction is mainly to use molecular biology technology to carry out applied basic research on wheat breeding, and at the same time conduct applied research on the production of grain crops and flower seeds. The current work directions are: 1. Focusing on increasing the number of grains per spike, conducting theoretical research on branched wheat as well as germplasm innovation and new variety breeding; 2. Basic research and applied research on male sterility in wheat, including light and temperature-sensitive male Basic theoretical research on hormone regulation and proteomic analysis of sterile wheat. In practice, chemical male-killing hybrid wheat breeding is used. 4-8 new hybrid wheat lines undergo field trials every year; 3. Conventional genetic breeding research and new varieties of wheat. Promotion work, including participating in the promotion of Professor Gao Qingrong’s cultivation of Shannong 22 and Shannong 23 in Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, and Hebei, and conducting regional trials in Xinjiang and Tianjin; participating in the promotion of the newly approved new wheat variety Shannong 24 in 2013 Breeding work.

The main projects undertaken or participated in include: the 12th Five-Year Plan for National Science and Technology Support, two national 863 projects, two key projects of the Shandong Provincial Natural Science Foundation, and one Shandong Provincial Agricultural Science and Technology Achievements Transformation Fund. He has published more than 20 papers in the research field, including 11 SCI papers. He has also applied for a patent and participated in the compilation of 4 textbooks as an associate editor and editorial board member.
