History of two kinds of cars in Germany

Looking at the History

Ideals and Inventions of the Founders of Mercedes-Benz

Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler are both inventors of automobiles and founders of the oldest automobile manufacturing company in the world. About 12 years ago, karl benz and gottlieb daimler changed the world with creative new inventions, and opened a new era of personal transportation.

on January 29th, 1886, karl benz's automobile obtained the imperial patent certificate (patent number: 37435), which marked that karl benz realized his personal ideal: the vehicle and the engine constituted the overall concept of perfect integration for the first time. The history of human transportation has since opened a new chapter. The first car in the history of the automobile industry weighed less than 3 kilograms, of which the engine weighed more than 1 kilograms. Only a few weeks later, gottlieb daimler's four-wheel car was patented. Consistent with the ideal of "land, sea and air" comprehensive motorization, gottlieb daimler soon applied this Daimler 188 single-cylinder engine assembled on this four-wheeled vehicle to airships and motorboats.

This exhibition introduces the two founders of Mercedes-Benz, and shows the historical photos of their families, the early workshops where they worked, and the leaders of Mercedes-Benz (Benz &; Cie) and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. In addition, the exhibition also shows busts of two founders, karl benz's patented car, and Daimler 188 single-cylinder engine dubbed "the grandfather clock".

the origin of brand name: Emile YeRinecker and motor sports

Emil Jellinek, an Austrian businessman, is a customer of Daimler Automobile Company. He took his daughter's name "Mercedes" (Spanish name for a woman) as the name of the car customized for him by Daimler Automobile Company. In 191, the 35-horsepower "Mercedes" car achieved the breakthrough of "modern car". This "Mercedes" car was an excellent novel product at that time, which adopted many innovative technologies, including powerful engine, honeycomb radiator, long wheelbase and low center of gravity. Emile YeRinecker pushed the 35-horsepower "Mercedes" car into the arena and achieved success. Soon, the name "Mercedes" began to spread widely. In 192, "Mercedes" was protected by law as a trademark. In the same year, Daimler Automobile Company launched the Mercedes "Simplex" series; "Simplex" series is not only equipped with a more powerful engine, but also easier to operate. The 35 horsepower Mercedes "Simplex" produced in 197 exhibited in this exhibition was a typical representative at that time.

unlike the original Simplex model, the spur camshaft drive of the 35 HP model shown this time is started from the middle, not from the end of the shaft. In addition, it also meets the simple and durable standards: four cylinders, three crankshaft bearings, two transverse camshafts, T-shaped transverse valves and double spark plugs for ignition.

Top quality-one-time manufacturing and mass production

In order to cope with the increasing competitive pressure from the United States, Mercedes-Benz decided to develop popular medium and small displacement cars in 191. On this basis, the company management held a competition among employees to encourage them to design small cars. Karl Ketterer designed a new model in his spare time, which was recognized. The company finally decided to produce 1, cars with an output of 8/18 horsepower in one year. This car soon became a great success, and promoted Mercedes-Benz to continue to develop new models. In 1912, the successor model 8/2 HP Mercedes-Benz debuted, and it was known as "Silent Benz" because of its smooth running engine.

however, as the 1913 "Snake Car" in this exhibition showed, the 8/2 horsepower Mercedes-Benz also has room for highly personalized configuration. For example, the snake horn design on the right front wing panel makes it known as "Snake Car". "Snake Car" elegantly embodies the * * * characteristics between the standardized quality of Mercedes-Benz and the customized equipment. Like its predecessor, 8/2 horsepower Mercedes-Benz is also a mass-produced car.

innovative technology: supercharged engine

Mercedes, with an output of 28/95 HP, is the first "luxury" car, which has always been in the leading position in the automobile industry in the years before and after the First World War. The 28/95 HP Mercedes makes full use of innovative technology, which is one of the best automobile products. Its technical innovations include: overhead camshaft driven by a vertical shaft, cylinders arranged in pairs, welded cooling jacket and V-shaped top valve. It uses a 6-cylinder engine developed by Paul Daimler based on the powerful and lightweight aero engine produced by the company at that time. The output power is as high as 95 HP and the maximum speed can reach 138 km/h. Thanks to the innovative engine technology, the 28/95 horsepower Mercedes has become the champion in many automobile competitions and is known as the "winner's car". Later, after extensive tests, this model was equipped with a supercharged engine.

The victory in Targa Florio in 1922 marked that Daimler Automobile Company and later Mercedes-Benz Company pushed supercharged engine cars to a brilliant road of success.

Two mergers-a global group

During the period of inflation and sales depression after World War I, only companies with strong financial resources and excellent brands could survive, but these companies also had to cooperate. Mercedes-Benz and Daimler Automobile Company formed a syndicate in 1924 and merged into Daimler-Benz in 1926. In 1998, Daimler-Benz of Germany and Chrysler of the United States merged into the globally operated Daimler-Chrysler Group. Mercedes-Benz, smart and Maibakh, independent brands of Mercedes-Benz Car Group, are important pillars of the newly-built Daimler-Chrysler Group.

Design and aerodynamics

In 193s, on the newly-built German highway, many people who were determined to become celebrities took the spacious and comfortable Mercedes-Benz p>2 cars. Among them, the short wheelbase version of the combined sports car is a small batch of customized products, and it has been discontinued since 1938. Mercedes-Benz 32 Combination Coupé has a stylish and elegant appearance design, which has a unique charm. The car is equipped with a folding top and can be converted into a convertible. The straight six-cylinder 78-horsepower engine running smoothly, as well as the design of transverse camshaft and transverse valve, became the typical models of engine installation in the 193s. With its streamlined body design, flexible six-cylinder engine and advanced chassis, the average driving speed of this car has been significantly improved. This classic car exhibition shows one of these treasures.

in the following decades, Mercedes-Benz improved and perfected the aerodynamic efficiency of cars through wind tunnel tests, thus further improving the handling safety, fuel economy and the maximum speed. Modeling also plays an important role in automobile development: Mercedes-Benz represents a unique, expressive and distinguished design.

Mercedes-Benz 6: the pinnacle

In September p>1963, after the Mercedes-Benz 6 appeared at the Frankfurt International Auto Show, the reporter claimed in the report that "Mercedes-Benz showed the best car in the world".

As a perfect combination of dynamics, comfort and dignity, Mercedes-Benz 6 combines the latest engineering technologies at that time, such as hydraulic system, independent suspension, air suspension and its hydraulic adjustable shock absorber, adjustment of driving height, four compressed air-assisted disc brakes, and two brake calipers for each front wheel. In addition, Mercedes-Benz 6 also has luxurious interior, which is an ideal official senior official car and a car favored by demanding users and celebrities.

in addition to the sedan version with 5-7 seats, Mercedes-Benz also offers three Pullman versions with 7-8 seats, including the rear convertible. Mercedes-Benz 6 also has bulletproof versions made according to special requirements.

up to now, Mercedes-Benz brand still abides by the founders' creed: "Excellence and Forever Leading" (karl benz) and "Pursuing Excellence" (gottlieb daimler). In the long term, creative technological innovation will also continue this tradition, thus pushing Mercedes-Benz to new glories.
