Flexible design of rear row and container space, new direction of pickup market segment

Now the domestic pickup truck market is gradually maturing, and the segmentation trend is becoming more and more obvious. Many manufacturers have launched commercial vehicles and passenger cars for consumers with different needs, and the off-road version is the pinnacle, pointing to the ultimate direction of pickup trucks. However, everyone's means are basically the same, using configuration and materials to distinguish different uses. But are these really the only ways?

Some time ago, we did a survey on the function of pickup trucks. It can be seen that the container, as the biggest highlight of the pickup truck model, actually has many functional changes, which has also caused many card friends to discuss. In addition to the sound of pickup trucks, we also heard a lot of voices about pickup truck design, and these voices boil down to two points: rear space and container size. Think carefully, in fact, these two points can also be considered as two new differences in the use of pickup trucks/passenger cars.

The rear space can be made smaller, and the positioning of commercial pickup trucks.

At present, the second row of most pickup trucks in China doesn't feel very good, especially when encountering some bumpy road conditions, it is normal for the rear passengers to feel dizzy and sick. Even if the configuration is used again, the comfort is obviously not as comfortable as SUV or car. Therefore, there is such a demand. In the case of the same wheelbase, the space in the second row can be directly reduced, and a row of semi-models can be introduced, while the rich space can be reserved for containers, which naturally increases the space of containers.

As a multi-purpose vehicle, it is also very likely that many people will take it occasionally, but it will definitely not be a long distance. So Piccadilly's second row of seats is just like the third row of seats in a seven-seat SUV (which can also be considered as the rear seat of a mini-car). It's just an emergency and short-distance ride, so the requirements for comfort are not so high, as long as passengers can be taken from A to B, and the container has more space to hold things. This model is more suitable for commercial use, so this is also a new direction for the development of commercial pickup trucks.

The rear space can be made larger, and the positioning of pickup trucks can also be done.

Since there is a temporary ride demand in the second row, there must be a long-term ride demand, which is also the purpose of pickup trucks now, just like family cars. Therefore, this demand will have higher requirements for the space and comfort of the back row. Judging from the rear space of pickup trucks in China at present, it has reached the level of compact cars or SUVs at most (although the rear leg space of some models seems to be large, it is at the expense of the length of the rear seat cushion). In fact, the space left for the rear row is far from enough. The rear space of American full-size pickup trucks can basically reach the level of medium and large cars or SUVs, so the comfort of the space can basically be well guaranteed.

Therefore, if domestic pickup trucks want to be more customer-oriented than American full-size pickup trucks, we can reduce the size of the container and leave plenty of space for the back row, thus having a good customer-oriented foundation. If the seat with adjustable front and rear is added, the multi-link suspension system with rear spiral spring can not only ensure the comfort of the rear seat, but also have more storage space for the cargo box (compared with SUV). This pickup truck is completely the positioning of the family car.

Pickup companies may not be aware of this demand from consumers.

For domestic pickup truck companies, it is not without this ability. Not long ago, we saw the patent drawings of a row and a half pickup trucks launched by two domestic companies, but unfortunately, these rows and a half models were not listed in China, but turned to overseas markets. SAIC pickup trucks will hang MG's logo in some overseas markets, and launch a row of semi-models for this market. Jiangxi Isuzu also has a patent map of a row and a half pickup trucks, but this model has not been listed in China.

The pickup truck market in China is now in a high-speed development stage. Every family is trying to subdivide pickup trucks and walk on two legs for commercial vehicles, but most of them are upgrading their configuration and materials, ignoring the versatility of vehicle structures. If the market demand is incorporated into the product planning and the product is put into the domestic market, there may be unexpected feedback.
