The predecessor of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine was the Traditional Chinese Medicine Teaching and Research Section of the former Enshi Higher Medical College. In 1978, with the approval of the Provincial Department of Education, enrollment in Traditional Chinese Medicine was resumed in 1979. With the leadership and strong support of governments and schools at all levels, great efforts were made in terms of teacher training, teaching equipment, and curriculum construction for the Traditional Chinese Medicine major. Investment, and the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine was formally established in 1988. In 1994, with the approval of the Provincial Education Commission, the major of Traditional Chinese Medicine was launched. In 1998, the former Enshi Higher Medical College merged into Hubei University for Nationalities. The merger brought new development opportunities to our department. In the fall of 1998, undergraduate education in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine) began. In 2001, undergraduates in Traditional Chinese Medicine were recruited. The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine currently has more than 30 faculty members, including 5 professors, 16 associate professors, 2 with doctoral degrees, and 11 with master's degrees. Since 1958, our department has trained more than 1,400 medical professionals and talents integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine for the country. It has made positive contributions to the medical and health care of our province, especially the surrounding areas of Hunan, Chongqing, Sichuan and Guizhou adjacent to the mountainous areas of western Hubei. At present, with the direct care and support of the college leaders, our department has clear ideas for running schools, reasonable professional training goals, and the teaching management and school running standards have improved year by year. The Medical Department of the School of Medicine of Hubei University for Nationalities is one of the main departments of undergraduate medical education.
