EL series and the twists and turns of "eight-second shutter"
EL2' s eight-second shutter gear was originally designed on EL, but unfortunately, in 1969, Japan Optical found that the shutter operation data processing of EL that will be put into production is likely to conflict with the patents of other companies! Therefore, the production plan of el model was stopped urgently, and the shutter operation data processing program of EL was rewritten immediately. The newly designed program requires more complex circuits, and the top of the fuselage must also be expanded into a wider trapezoidal top. This is also the reason why Nikon Mart EL series set-top boxes are wider than conventional Nikon MartSLR (the trapezoidal logo design elements of EL series set-top boxes are also related to this, which seems to be to distinguish them from Nikon Mart FT series. At that time, everyone was using the logo of Nikon Mart, and it was necessary to use a clear logo to distinguish between all-mechanical and automatic exposure models. Three years later, in 1972, Nikon Matel was ready to put into production again, but unfortunately, due to the immature technology, the redesigned shutter eight-second gear was not accurate and reliable in some cases. However, the planned listing time is pressing, and the listing time can no longer be postponed, and it is impossible to "redo". Therefore, in the case of necessity, we can only cut off the eight-second shutter speed of EL, and only provide the slowest four-second shutter speed. This problem was not effectively solved when Nikon mate elw 1676 was launched. The problem was not solved until 1977 introduced EL2 with new circuit. EL2 uses the same circuit as FE, the former is the swan song of Nikon Mart, and the latter is the beginning of a new era of Nikon mid-range automatic exposure camera.
