The Department of Forest Resources and Tourism Management was established in 2001 based on the Forest Resources Protection and Recreation (undergraduate) major and is directly under the management of the Forestry College. It consists of two major teaching and research sections, the Forest Manager Teaching and Research Section, the Tourism Management Section, and the Forest Manager Comprehensive Laboratory. The distinctive department integrates forest manager, forestry economics, ecological protection, ecotourism, resource information management and tourism management, covering the three major disciplines of forest manager, forestry economics and tourism management. It currently offers two undergraduate majors: forest resource protection and recreation (ecological protection and resource information management) and tourism management, as well as a master's degree program in forest management. The Forest Manager Research Office and the Guangdong Provincial Nature Reserve Research Center are affiliated with this department.

This department is committed to cultivating modern forestry and tourism management talents with southern characteristics who understand both business and management, ecology and tourism, technology and art. Since enrollment began in 2001, more than 300 graduate and undergraduate students have been sent to society. Currently, there are 22 graduate students and 691 undergraduate students in the department.

This department has now formed a relatively complete teaching, scientific research and social consulting service system. It not only undertakes the teaching tasks of the four majors of the Forestry College, but also offers forest management, forest survey, dendrometry, forest resource economics, forestry economic management, 3S technology, forestry information management system, tourism, tour guide, and tourism. Geography, tourism aesthetics, travel agency management, hotel management, ecotourism, etc. are divided into a series of courses for graduate students, undergraduate students, junior college students, etc.; they also focus on the combination of teaching, scientific research and production, and are particularly good at forest management, forestry economics, and tourism management. , 3S technology, forest park survey and planning, nature reserve management, urban forestry and other research fields. It has won many scientific and technological progress awards from the National Forestry Ministry and the Guangdong Provincial Forestry Department, and has become a teaching and scientific research position with southern characteristics.
