Faced with setbacks again and again, the three young people did not lose heart, but took courage to start again. In the past two years, they have selected a variety of materials, made dozens of mixing heads, and welded four or five hundred specimens successively, and finally successfully developed the mixing head, which made the experiment step by step successful. On September 18, 2003, they successfully welded the first specimen by friction stir welding, and a specimen with a weld length of 700 mm was successfully welded a few days later. They solemnly kept this experiment as a souvenir.

The development of stirring head and the success of specimen welding are only the first step on the research road of friction stir welding. Young engineers immediately began another technological breakthrough-using friction stir welding technology to manufacture tank-scale specimens with a diameter of 500 mm. On June 8, 2004, preliminary results were achieved in the water pressure test of the test block. At the end of the year, the engineers and technicians of 2 1 1 plant took a big step towards the engineering application stage of friction stir welding. In cooperation with related research institutes, the test tank with a diameter of 2.25m was successfully welded by friction stir welding, and the water pressure test was successfully carried out.

After the success of the experiment, Wang Guoqing was particularly pleased.
