Can quicklime be used as a feed additive to feed pigs? And what is its role in feed?

1. Quicklime cannot be fed to pigs. Quicklime is alkaline and will destroy the nutrients in the feed and burn the pigs’ mouths.

2. Limestone is a kind of ore. After being crushed, it is called limestone powder, or stone powder for short, which can be used as feed to supplement calcium. Stone powder contains 32% calcium.

3. The relationship between limestone and quicklime: limestone ore is calcined to generate quicklime and carbon dioxide, and water is added to digest the lime to generate lime milk (the main component is calcium hydroxide, also called hydrated lime), and then carbon dioxide is introduced. Carbonize lime milk to form calcium carbonate precipitate, which can be dehydrated, dried and crushed to obtain light calcium carbonate. Light calcium carbonate is pure white. The purity is 98%, the calcium content in the molecule is 40%, and the actual calcium content is 39.2%. It is a better calcium source feed. Correspondingly, stone powder is called heavy calcium.
