Professor Jia has long been engaged in the research and teaching of microbial fermentation. The main research directions are the development of new biological reaction process, the establishment of high-density culture and high-expression system, the morphological study of microbial reaction process and the control and optimization of biological reaction process. Specifically, based on the principle of system biology, the high expression system of genetically engineered bacteria is established to realize the industrial production of new natural biological preservatives and polypeptide products; Taking terrestrial algae cells as the research object, combined with biological and chemical unit operations, a high-density culture technology platform was established.

The road of teaching

In order to serve the motherland as soon as possible, Mr. Jia has been working in the front line of teaching and scientific research since he graduated from Osaka University in Japan on 1985. After returning to China, due to the lack of courses on biological processes in the fermentation engineering specialty of domestic universities, he took the lead in setting up the course of "Principles of Bioreaction Engineering" for undergraduates in China, and independently compiled and published the first textbook "Principles of Bioreaction Engineering" in China on 1990. In 2006, the book was rated as the national 11th Five-Year Plan textbook. In addition, he also edited the textbook "Bioengineering Experiment" of Tianjin Tenth Five-Year Plan and participated in the compilation of the textbook "Biopharmaceutical Technology".

While completing the teaching work, Comrade Jia actively carried out teaching research. In recent years, the educational reform project completed by the Ministry of Education won the second prize of national teaching achievement and the first prize of Tianjin teaching achievement. The completed "Professional Teaching Mode Reform" won the second prize of Tianjin Teaching Achievement; The research and practice of bioengineering specialty construction and personnel training won the teaching achievement award of Tianjin University of Science and Technology. As the discipline leader of fermentation engineering in our school, he attaches great importance to discipline construction. With the support of leaders at all levels, he works with all the teachers. His first-class discipline, Light Industry Technology and Engineering, has been approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee as a first-class discipline doctor authorized unit and approved by the Ministry of Personnel as a postdoctoral mobile station. In the evaluation of key disciplines in recent years, it passed the evaluation of key disciplines in Tianjin with excellent results. Two disciplines of fermentation engineering were rated as national key disciplines.
