5 Notes

It is recommended to use the smallest effective dose and the shortest course of treatment to reduce the occurrence of adverse drug reactions. If the treatment is ineffective, please terminate the treatment of this product. Liver, kidney and heart function tests should be monitored during treatment. There are rare reports of serious liver damage caused by this product, and fatal reports are even rarer. Patients who develop symptoms of liver injury (such as anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, red urine) during treatment with this product and patients with abnormal liver function tests should discontinue treatment. These patients should not continue taking this product. There are reports that short-term use of this product causes liver damage, most of which are reversible lesions. The simultaneous use of known liver-damaging drugs and excessive alcohol consumption must be avoided during treatment with this product, as either factor may increase the risk of liver damage from this product. Patients should be advised to avoid the use of analgesics during treatment with this product. Concomitant use of other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including selective COX-2 inhibitors, is not recommended. The risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, and perforation can be fatal. Regardless of whether the patient has a history of gastrointestinal problems, with or without warning symptoms, this product may cause gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcer/perforation in patients at any time during treatment. If gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcers occur, treatment with this product should be discontinued. This product should be used with caution in patients with concomitant gastrointestinal disease including a history of peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcerative colitis, or Crohn's disease. Elderly patients have an increased frequency of adverse reactions to NSAIDs, particularly gastrointestinal bleeding and perforation, which may be fatal. This product should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment or cardiac insufficiency as this product may cause renal impairment. Once renal function damage occurs, treatment with this product should be terminated. Because this product can affect platelet function, it should be used with caution in patients with bleeding tendencies. However, this product is not a substitute for acetylsalicylic acid in the prevention of cardiovascular events. NSAIDs may mask fever caused by an underlying bacterial infection. This product may damage a woman's fertility and is not recommended for women who are trying to conceive. Female patients who have difficulty conceiving or who are undergoing investigation for the cause of infertility should consider discontinuing the use of this product. Nimesulide is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The following is reported by the US FDA: Clinical trials of a variety of COX-2 selective or non-selective NSAIDs lasting up to 3 years have shown that this product may cause serious cardiovascular disease. There is an increased risk of thrombotic adverse events, myocardial infarction, and stroke, which may be fatal. All NSAIDs, including COX-2 selective or non-selective drugs, may have similar risks.

Patients with cardiovascular disease or risk factors for cardiovascular disease are at greater risk. Physicians and patients should remain alert to the occurrence of such events even in the absence of previous cardiovascular symptoms. Patients should be informed of the signs and/or symptoms of serious cardiovascular safety and the steps to take if they occur. Patients should be alert to signs and symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness, and slurred speech, and should seek medical help immediately if any of these symptoms or signs occur. Like all nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), this drug may cause new onset of hypertension or worsen existing hypertension, either of which may lead to an increased incidence of cardiovascular events. Taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in patients taking thiazides or loop diuretics may affect the effectiveness of these treatments. Patients with hypertension should use nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including this product, with caution. Blood pressure should be monitored closely during initiation and throughout treatment. Use with caution in patients with a history of hypertension and/or heart failure (e.g., fluid retention and edema). NSAIDs, including this product, can cause potentially fatal and serious adverse skin reactions, such as exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). These serious events can occur without warning. Patients should be informed of the signs and symptoms of serious skin reactions and should discontinue use of this product at the first occurrence of skin rash or any other sign of allergic reaction.

6 Drug overdose

Overdose poisoning should be treated urgently, including gastric lavage, inducing vomiting, taking activated charcoal, and symptomatic and supportive therapy.
