1. What is patent fee reduction
The full name of patent fee reduction: patent fee reduction
It is a preferential patent fee policy implemented by the state in order to develop patented technology, promote scientific and technological development, and reduce the burden on enterprises and individuals. Patent applicants or patentees who meet the policy requirements can submit corresponding materials to the National Patent Office and request a reduction in patent application fees.

2. What are the requirements?
Patent applicants or patentees meet one of the following conditions:
Individual: average monthly income in the previous year was less than 5,000 yuan (annual income is less than 60,000 yuan)

Enterprise: The annual taxable income of the enterprise in the previous year was less than 1 million yuan
Public institutions, social groups, and non-profit scientific research institutions: apply directly
Note: 2 If one or more individuals or units are the same patent applicant or the patentee, they shall meet the conditions for fee reduction respectively. (Either party does not meet the conditions and will not be eligible for payment reduction)
3. How much money can be saved by reducing fees
The fees that can be applied for reduction include the following four types:
(1) Application fee (excluding publication printing fee and application surcharge)
(2) Invention patent application substantive examination fee
(3) Patent reexamination fee
p>(4) Annual fee (annual fee within ten years from the year when the patent right is granted)
An invention patent (1 applicant) can save approximately 15 years from grant 38845 yuan.
A utility model patent (one applicant) can save approximately 10,710 yuan from authorization to expiration of patent protection.
A design patent (one applicant) can save approximately 9,945 yuan from grant to 10 years.
4. When to apply?
Patent fee reduction filing needs to be done every year.
1. The patent fee reduction filing for this year can be processed throughout the year: after the fee reduction filing application is approved and passed, the fee reduction filing is valid from December 31 of the year after the application day.
During the validity period:
(1) All newly applied patents under the applicant’s name can enjoy fee reductions.
(2) If the applicant has an existing patent that has not applied for fee reduction, he may apply for a reduction in relevant fees in accordance with regulations.
(3) Newly applied patents can only enjoy the fee reduction after filing for fee reduction in the same year (strongly recommended: first get the fee reduction filing approved, and then apply for patent reduction)

If no fee reduction registration is required in the next year, all patents that have already processed fee reduction requests can continue to enjoy fee reductions, but new application cases in the next year will no longer be able to enjoy fee reductions.3. Starting from October 1st of the current year, the patent fee reduction filing for the next year can be processed: after the fee reduction filing is approved, the validity period is from January 1st to December 31st of the next year.

Log in to the State Intellectual Property Office - Patent Affairs Service System, select the fee reduction filing business, upload relevant materials, wait patiently for about a week, and the fee reduction approval will be passed.
