Wilhelm maybach's father-son entrepreneurship

wilhelm maybach and his son Carl Maibakh

Although Mercedes-Benz was a great success in the following years, wilhelm maybach obviously became the victim of the internal interests struggle. His position as chief engineer was replaced by others, and his work activities were also restricted. So in 197, he left DMG angrily. When Zeppelin)LZ4 airship crashed in Echterdingen after a storm on August 5th, 198, wilhelm maybach promised to build a new and improved airship engine for GrafZeppelin. Later, on March 23, 199, he established Luftfahrzeug-Motorenbau-GMBHBissingen Company, and the technical director was his son, Karl Maibakh, who was also one of the founders of Maibakh. Karl Maibakh also participated in the design of the new engine. Karl Maibakh didn't live up to his father's expectations. In order to keep the absolute advantage of his brand, he started to develop a 12-cylinder car engine in the late 192s. With the experience in manufacturing multi-cylinder engines accumulated in the aviation industry, Karl Maibakh manufactured Maibakh "Model 12" with a 15-horsepower 7-liter V12 engine in 1929. This is the predecessor DS7 of the famous Maibakh Zeppelin DS8 in the mid-193s. It uses the same engine and double overdrive transmission as Zeppelin. What is of special significance is that the "Zeppelin" car is a gift from Karl Maibakh to his father. In 1929, wilhelm maybach's health had gone from bad to worse, but he still had a persistent dream in his heart-to create a top luxury car with strong horsepower. In order to let his father have a taste of his long-cherished wish, Karl Maibakh, who has a strong affection for his father, constantly improved the engine originally used for airship, and finally developed the Zeppelin sedan before his father died.

In p>1931, the "Chipalin" DS8 came out. It was about 5.5 meters long and used an 8-liter engine with 2 horsepower. As the flagship model of Maibakh, the "Zeppelin" car represents the pinnacle of luxury cars, and it was the most prestigious German car at that time: Zeppelin DS 8 car with unparalleled elegance and dynamic performance

Of course, owning the "Zeppelin" car needs a solid economic foundation, and the price of the car is as high as 36, German marks, which was enough to buy three detached houses in the early 193s. However, Karl Maibakh is not satisfied with the status quo. He once said: "For those customers with extraordinary tastes, perfect technical details are very important when customizing their frames, suspensions, engines, transmissions, radiators, front panels and other components." Therefore, no matter in car body manufacturing, interior decoration and car body painting, Maibakh always insists on cooperating with the best supporting factories and experts in this field to meet the needs of consumers and provide excellent products that complement their own images.

the convertible version of Zeppelin DS 8 today, this once famous super brand has come back with the strong support of Mercedes-benz group. Different from the leading fashion brand Mercedes-Benz, Maibakh is presented to the world as the top brand in the huge product pyramid of the group. Although it has been silent for more than 6 years, the recovered Maibakh has not only lost its charm, but also added a bit of mystery.

the old and new versions of p>Maybach's factory emblem

Professor Schmidt, executive vice president of global marketing of Mercedes-Benz Automobile Group, said: "Maibakh brand represents unparalleled excellent quality, ingenious production technology, constantly breaking through the scientific and technological level, and distinguished temperament. This legendary brand reappears in the market and is bound to become a new model in the field of super luxury cars. " Among all the design inventions in wilhelm maybach, the most outstanding one was the first "Mercedes" car invented after Daimler's death in 19, which caused quite a stir in "NiceWeek" in March 191. The birth of this car is attributed to both wilhelm maybach and EmilJellinek.

There is also a small episode in the origin of the name "Mercedes". Emil jellinek, then Austrian consul in Nice, France, was an enthusiastic supporter of Daimler. In 1899, he won the championship in Nice car race in France by driving the Phoenix car made by Daimler. He named the racing car "Mercedes", which is the name of his little daughter. He thought that the beautiful name and beautiful daughter brought him good luck in the competition, so he suggested Daimler use this name as the trademark of the car. In order to thank this enthusiastic supporter, Daimler put the name on his car, and it sold well.

At the same time, the design concept of "real" automobile in history points out the future development direction for the automobile industry and opens the door to the design of the automobile industry. Since then, streamlined contour, high performance, honeycomb radiator, low hood, long wheelbase, positioning plate gear shifting mechanism, oblique steering system, front and rear wheels with almost the same size, and lightweight have all become key factors in automobile engineering design.

gottlieb daimler and wilhelm maybach 1865-197

1865

gottlieb daimler and wilhelm maybach first met in Bruderhaus's workshop.

in 1868

Daimler joined the Maschinenbau-Gesellschaft factory, and after six months, Maibakh was recruited under his command and appointed as a technical cartographer.

1872

Daimler entered the Gasmotorenfabrik factory founded by nikolaus otto as the technical director. When Otto started the research and development of the four-stroke engine, 27-year-old Maibakh was appointed as the design director.

1882

Due to the intensified conflict with Otto in design concept, gottlieb daimler left Gasmotorenfabrik factory and bought a spacious property with a small house near Stuttgart. One of the small gardens was transformed into his workshop. Wilhelm maybach also came here later.

1883

Daimler and Maibakh developed the heat pipe ignition mechanism in the workshop, and devoted themselves to the improvement of more internal combustion engines. These invention patents laid a good foundation for later commercialization.

in 1884

the test engine reached 6rpm for the first time, and this vertical single-cylinder engine powered by gasoline was tried to be installed on ships, fire boats and other equipment.

1885

The "grandfather clock" engine is applied to bicycles, which is actually the pioneer of motorcycles.

1886

The engine was first mounted on a four-wheeled carriage and became a famous "gasoline carriage". Daimler and Maibakh also realized the great potential of an electric vehicle.

1887

Mass production began in Kanstadt, and a large number of engines and test vehicles were manufactured.

1889

Daimler's "spoke-wheel car" was presented to the public at the World Exhibition in Paris. This lightweight four-wheeled car is equipped with V2 engine and step-by-step transmission.

189

DMG was established. Daimler is the acting chairman of the supervisory committee, and Maibakh is also in the management of the company.

in 1891

Maibakh left DMG and was ordered by Daimler to set up a new laboratory in Herman Hotel.

In 1894

DMG was facing bankruptcy, and Daimler also left DMG.

In 1895

Frederick Richard Simms, a British engineer, bought the patent right to use Phoenix engine at a high price of 35, marks, which saved DMG from bankruptcy and restored Daimler and Maibakh to their original positions in DMG. By the end of this year, * * * had produced 1 engines.

in 1897

Maibakh further improved the Phoenix sedan with front engine.

19

gottlieb daimler died on March 6, 19. Wilhelm maybach made a lot of improvements to its products, creating the first modern car with only 35 horsepower that we saw in the history books.

191-196

wilhelm maybach developed more different engines and chassis for Mercedes cars.

in 192

a fire destroyed the production workshop of DMG. The new factory moved to Stuttgart.

in 197

Maibakh left DMG because of a dispute with the management of the company, and began to instruct his son Carl Maibakh to design the engine of the Zeppelin rigid airship.

in 1916

wilhelm maybach was awarded the honorary doctorate by Stuttgart University of Science and Technology.

wilhelm maybach died in Stuttgart on December 29th, 1929.

In 1996

wilhelm maybach's name entered the Automobile Hall of Fame.
