Toyota and BYD cooperate to build the first pure electric vehicle, equipped with blade battery

Yitau News At the Toyota Electric Vehicle Strategy Conference held yesterday, Toyota released as many as 11 new pure electric vehicles, covering all market segments such as SUVs, sedans, sports cars, and pickup trucks. We learned from relevant channels that the bZ SDN concept car will be the first pure electric vehicle jointly built by Toyota and BYD. Its mass-produced version is expected to debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April next year and be put on sale before the end of 2022.

The Toyota bZ SDN concept car is positioned as a pure electric mid-size sedan. The styling borrows part of the design language of the Toyota bZ4X concept car. The sharp front face shape is combined with a fastback body and hidden door handles to make it look more attractive. It's very dynamic up there.

It is understood that the mass-produced version released in the future will use BYD's lithium iron phosphate blade battery technology, and the price is also very competitive, with the price threshold being less than 200,000 yuan.

On July 19, 2019, BYD signed a contract with Toyota Motor. The two parties will jointly develop pure electric models of sedans and low-floor SUVs as well as the power batteries required for the above products. In the future, the models cooperated by both parties will use the Toyota brand and are planned to be launched in the Chinese market before 2025.

On March 25, 2020, BYD Toyota Electric Vehicle Technology Co., Ltd. was officially established. The registered place is Pingshan District, Shenzhen City, with a registered capital of 345 million yuan. The legal representative is Zhao Binggen, General Manager of BYD Automotive Institute, and Director Hiroyuki Kishi has long been the president of Toyota Global Powertrain's internal company. Both parties hold 50% of the shares respectively, and the subscribed capital contribution is 172.5 million yuan.
