Hainan University Library is adjacent to the main teaching building and No. 2 teaching building. It is located on the bank of the beautiful Dongpo Lake. It is across the lake from the east gate of the school. Its novel shape and design integrate the essence of Eastern and Western cultures. It integrates the cultural landscape of Hainan and the natural landscape of Dongpo Lake into one.
Hainan University Library is a key cultural and educational project for the 10th anniversary of the founding of Hainan Province. It consists of Haidian Main Library, Danzhou Campus and Chengxi Campus, and 19 secondary libraries. The building area totals 43,632 square meters. Among them, the Haidian library has an area of ??33,106 square meters, the Danzhou branch has an area of ??6,500 square meters, the Chengxi campus branch has an area of ??2,300 square meters, and the 19 secondary libraries have a total area of ??1,726 square meters. The average library building area per student in the school is 1.41 square meters. There are 4,587 reading seats in the school library, 3,704 in the Haidian Library, 200 reading seats in the Danzhou Campus and Chengxi Campus branch libraries, 503 reading seats in the 19 secondary libraries, and 180 multimedia reading seats.
In order to meet the needs of the growing number of students, the school has invested a lot of money in the purchase of books and documents, which has greatly increased the number of books and materials in the library. Our library currently has a collection of 3.2765 million books, including 2.0852 million paper documents (including paper books and bound volumes of periodicals) and 1.1913 million electronic books. Calculated based on the actual number of students on campus of 30,974, the total number of books per student is 105.78 There are 67.32 volumes of paper documents per student, and 38.46 volumes of electronic books per student.
In addition, there are a wealth of electronic databases in Chinese and foreign languages, such as VIP Chinese Science and Technology Journal Database, Wanfang Data Resource System, Chinese Journal Full-text Database, China Important Newspaper Full-text Database, Chinese Journal Bibliography Database, and Chinese Patents Bibliography abstract database, China's outstanding doctoral and master's degree thesis full-text database, EBSCO database, BIOSIS Previews database, CA database, Springer Link electronic journal system, LexisNexis and other Chinese and foreign electronic information resources, you can query and retrieve important domestic and foreign philosophy and social sciences and natural science journal references and full-text information. The library mainly serves teachers and students of Hainan University, and provides literature exchange and information consultation services to all walks of life in the province. It is not only a library and information center and academic activity center serving Hainan University's teaching and scientific research, but also a second classroom for students. It is the documentation and information center and information service center of Hainan Province. The library breaks through the traditional layout of separate collections, borrowings and readings, and implements a modern LAN management model with full open shelves for document collection, circulation and reading. Readers can directly enter the hall open to readers and choose literature materials at will.
The function of the library has expanded from a single document borrowing to a full range of knowledge services such as the generation, acquisition, transformation, integration, transmission and sharing of knowledge, intelligence, and information.
The library has launched an online email reminder service. When the book you borrowed is about to expire, the system will automatically send an email to your mailbox to remind you to return the book. Please return the book at the specified time to avoid overdue fees.
The first floor of the library is an exhibition hall, a multi-functional lecture hall, an information exchange hall, a multimedia reading room and a screening hall. On the second and third floors there are the first library of Philosophy Society (categories A to G, H0-H1, K), the second library of Philosophy Society (categories I literature, J art), and the first library of science and technology (categories N-R, T - Category Z), the Second Science and Technology Library (S Agricultural Sciences), the Gift Library (with Xiangmei Study Room inside), the Special Collections Library and the Reading Hall, in which various literature and books are available for readers to borrow or read in the library; south of the third floor (Annex Building) are the current newspapers and current periodicals rooms of social sciences and natural sciences respectively, for readers to browse the latest newspapers and periodicals; the multimedia reading hall and reference reference library on the south side of the third floor can use various reference books for manual work. Search, and you can use multimedia computers to read electronic documents and retrieve domestic and foreign materials. The north side of the fourth floor is the back issues library, where readers can search for Chinese and foreign periodical materials over the years; the south side of the fourth floor is the school campus network center and the foreign language book library. The fifth floor is respectively the Philosophy Society Reserved Book Library, the Science and Technology Reserved Book Library and the Hainan Document Center. It also has two reading rooms for teachers and graduate students (including the Hong Kong and Taiwan newspapers and periodicals reading room). The reserved room provides convenience for readers to find complete collections of materials. .
Library management and library business work have all been managed by electronic computers, and document retrieval has been fully implemented electronically and networked.
On the north side of the hall is a search hall with several terminals for readers to search for required collection documents and electronic database resources. On the south side of the third floor is the multimedia reading room and the library LAN host room. Readers can access the campus network of Hainan University at will and connect to the International Internet (INTERNET) through the China Education and Research Network (CERNET), so that they can retrieve information materials with rich content and diverse forms at home and abroad.
All library staff will be oriented toward education, the special zone, and modernization, and provide high-quality and comprehensive information services for the economic, technological, political, educational, and cultural development of the special zone. We hope to build the library into a modern information center for the province and a spiritual home for readers.
