John garner 196 1 was born in Ogden, Utah, USA. He has been in contact with golf since he was very young, and he has also done odd jobs in two public courses in his hometown. John Garner, 23, received his bachelor's degree from Weber College and then went to the University of Utah to complete his master's degree. Four years later, when he graduated with a master's degree in landscape architecture and environmental planning, he had helped many local stadiums to complete the design and construction. Then, John Ghana, who just entered the workplace, became a design assistant of Huozan Design Company and officially entered the golf course design and construction industry. This road will take 28 years. 20 12 owns its own design company-John Garner Golf Design Company. Since then, nothing can stop him from displaying his talents and exploring design ideas here.
Speaking of that experience in Hodzan Design Company, John Ghana still feels very lucky. He is very grateful to Mr. Michael Hodzan for giving him this opportunity and giving him a good start in his career. Although the economic downturn in the late 1980s made John Garner choose to leave, it was still a very valuable experience. John Garner left Hozan and went to nicklaus Design Company, where he enriched a large part of his career.
When he first arrived in nicklaus, John Garner participated in the first stadium construction project, namely Leo Palace Stadium designed by/kloc-0 in Guam in 1990. It is still the best leisure and holiday center in the western Pacific. Big bunkers, wavy and narrow fairways are the consistent styles of Master nicklaus. For John, every day is a day of progress. "In the past 25 years, it was a golden opportunity for me to work closely with Mr. nicklaus," John Garner commented on that experience. "It is a great benefit for me to know directly what the best golfers think of the golf course I designed and built and its strategic layout. When Jack designed a stadium, the stadium had appeared in his mind many times. In the process, he has completed various strategic layouts of the entire stadium. " Similarly, when talking about this friend who has worked together for more than 20 years, Mr. nicklaus did not hesitate to praise him: "John is a very talented and technical designer. He always responds to the needs of customers, and John is very creative in dealing with the difficulties and challenges in design. He is very hardworking, dedicated and passionate about his career. "
His concentration and persistence
For John Garner, every course design experience is unique, but if there are any ideas that he has always adhered to, then these should be worthy of our attention. China's philosophy pays attention to the harmony between man and nature, but these are no longer the patent of China people, and John is handy in using them. The design and construction of the stadium embodies the harmony between man and nature. As John said, every design must be able to adapt to the natural environment of the stadium, the climate and soil conditions of the stadium, choose the appropriate stadium vegetation and landscape characteristics, and realize the sustainable design concept. At the same time, as a stadium designer, he certainly has an imaginative space. However, a competent designer should be a qualified listener and performer, and it is very important to listen to customers' ideas and their expectations for their own stadium design and construction. John Garner insists that the difficulty of a golf course should not be used as an absolute criterion to measure its quality. A good golf course should be challenging for low handicap players, but at the same time, players of any level can enjoy a pleasant playing experience here, and the golf course itself should be beautiful.

When is the best time to be a stadium designer? What's the worst moment?
I really like doodling on the design draft until I finish a great design. The actual situation of each stadium is different, and there will be some special circumstances to be dealt with. I like to build a stadium and watch it complete step by step, just like watching my children grow up little by little, and each one is different. When it comes to the worst moment, it should be when the customer or contractor is not very serious about completing a good work. At this point, I am in great pain.
You have lived in Asia for five years. What impressed you the most?
I was deeply impressed by the unique culture and history of Asia. Great changes have taken place in China since 1990s. My first job in China was to participate in the design of 1993 Zhongshan Hot Spring Golf Club. At that time, most of our work was manual labor, and 500 workers went to the fields at the same time every day. By contrast, it is much easier to work here now, the construction method has become modern and the construction equipment has been mechanized.
You have been working for 28 years. In your opinion, what is the future of golf?
The future of this sport will be no different from its past. Will usher in a period of rapid development, but also decline for various reasons. Small public courses will be the focus of attention of future golfers. Those stadiums that the public can afford, those that can make people really understand the sport, will last longer.
You should know that the golf industry in China is facing a storm. How did the golf industry in the United States get through similar difficult times?
I don't think the word "storm" is appropriate. The development of golf in China is undergoing a purification process. It will take some time to clean up corruption. The difficult period in the history of American golf industry was caused by economic recession.
What is golf like on American university campuses?
Golf in the United States is like golf in any corner of the world: serious golfers constantly challenge themselves on the canvas of nature, while casual golfers are willing to enjoy a wonderful day outdoors with their families and friends.
