What's the difference between H.265 encoder and H.264 encoder?

H.265 is an upgraded version of H.264.

The first H.265 codec was launched by Ericsson in August 20 12. Half a year later, in February of 20 13, ITU officially approved the HEVC/H.265 standard. Compared with the previous H.264 standard, the H.265 standard has been greatly improved. China Huawei owns the most core patents and is the leader of this standard.

The main differences between them are as follows:

1, the same picture quality and the same bit rate, H.265 theoretically occupies 50% less storage space than H2.64.

2. If the storage space is the same, it means that the picture quality of H.265 is higher than that of H2.64 at the same bit rate, and the theoretical value is 30%~40%.

3.H.264 can transmit SD digital images at a speed lower than 2Mbps, while H.265 HighProfile can transmit 1080p full HD video at a transmission bandwidth lower than 1.5Mbps.

4. In addition to the improvement of coding and decoding efficiency, H.265 has significantly improved its adaptability to the network, and can run well under complex network conditions such as the Internet.
