Is WeBank safe?

Relatively safe.

On December 12, 2014, the China Banking Regulatory Commission stated that Shenzhen Qianhai WeBank, a private bank owned by domestic Internet giant Tencent, has been officially approved to open and is China's first Internet bank.

WeBank has a registered capital of 3 billion yuan and is led by Tencent, Baiyeyuan and Liye. Among them, Tencent subscribes for 30% of the bank's total share capital and is the largest shareholder.

On June 11, 2019, WeBank was selected into the "2019 Forbes China's Most Innovative Companies List". On January 9, 2020, Hurun Research Institute released the "2019 Hurun China Top 500 Private Enterprises", and WeBank ranked 36th with a market value of 150 billion yuan.

In July 2019, the 2019 China Awards Ceremony hosted by "The Asian Banker" was held in Beijing. Relying on its technological innovation and outstanding results in the fields of digital banking and financial technology, the bank won two awards: "Excellence in Retail Financial Services Award - Best Digital Bank in Asia Pacific 2019" and "Best Blockchain Project in 2019".

On October 21, 2019, Hurun Research Institute released the "2019 Hurun Global Unicorn List", and WeBank ranked 11th.

On December 4, 2019, WeBank’s number of blockchain invention patent applications reached 217 in 2019, ranking fifth in the world.
