Reasons for the maintenance fee of invention patent application

The scope of payment of maintenance fees is limited to invention patents and must be paid regularly. Most countries in the world stipulate that those who fail to pay the above fees on time without justifiable reasons. That is, it is regarded as a waiver of the patent right. The main reasons for this provision are:

(1) can effectively urge the patentee to measure the value of maintaining patents, which is conducive to a large number of patents becoming social wealth in time for the public to use for free;

(2) Compensation for the actual expenses incurred by the Patent Office in accepting and examining patent applications and other management work.
