Haian University Town Nantong Haian has five universities, namely Nantong University, Nantong Vocational University, Nantong University Xinglin College, Jiangsu Engineering Vocational and Technical College, and Jiangsu Shipping Vocational and Technical College. Nantong University, referred to as "Tongda", is located in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, a coastal open city known as the "Pearl of the Yangtze River" and "The First City in Modern China". The school is a joint venture between the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and the National Ministry of Transport. It is a comprehensive university founded by the Communist Party of China, a member of the fifteen key universities in Jiangsu Province, and a pilot university for the Ministry of Education’s “Excellent Doctor Education and Training Plan” and “Excellent Teacher Training Plan”.
