The 11th generation Honda Civic has arrived as scheduled.
On November 17, 2020, U.S. time, Honda officially released the prototype of the 11th generation Civic. The design of the new car is very complete, and the only differences between it and mass production are details. This means that the production version of the 11th generation Honda Civic will be launched in 2021.
Previously, we have reported and analyzed the appearance patent application drawings and spy photos of the 11th generation Honda Civic. The 11th generation Civic is completely consistent with the design we have analyzed before.
In terms of appearance design, the 11th-generation Honda Civic continues the family-style design style of the current Honda brand. The front face of the new car adopts a visual pull-down design, which makes the front of the car appear lower, thus highlighting the sporty feel. The side lines of the sedan version of the 11th generation Civic appear slender than the current model, and the body proportions are also perfectly controlled. In the design of the headlights and taillights, the 11th-generation Civic adopts a flying-wing LED light strip design, which echoes the headlights and taillights to create a stronger sense of fashion. The honeycomb-shaped air dam on the front of the car enhances the sporty look of the front face.
In the interior, the 11th-generation Honda Civic follows a simple and sporty design route. This interior layout has been reflected in the Honda e and the new generation Honda Fit.
The 11th generation Honda Civic will use a design combination of a large-size full LCD instrument panel and a 9-inch suspended central control touch screen. The vehicle system has been upgraded to Honda? CONNECT? 3.0 intelligent guidance interconnection system, and the interactive experience may be improved compared to the current 2.0 system.
In terms of body size, Honda has not announced the size data of the 11th generation Civic. However, the new car will continue Honda’s MM design concept of maximizing interior space and minimizing machinery. It is expected that the interior space performance of the 11th generation Civic will be improved compared to the current model.
In terms of active and passive safety, the 11th-generation Civic will be equipped with Honda Sensing safety suite, and some active safety configuration technologies will be upgraded. In addition, the frame rigidity of the new car will also be improved, and the aerodynamic performance will also be upgraded.
In terms of power, the 11th-generation Honda Civic will continue to use the powertrain combination of 1.5T turbocharged engine and CVT transmission. The maximum power output is expected to exceed 180 horsepower. In addition, the 11th generation Honda Civic will also launch a hybrid version of the 1.5T i-MMD hybrid system.
Although the prototype of the 11th generation Honda Civic is a sedan, the production version of the 11th generation Civic will continue to be launched in a hatchback version. In the US version, there will also be high-performance Civic Si and top-performance Civic Type?R models. Among them, the 11th generation Civic Si is expected to be equipped with a 2.0T engine, with a maximum power output of 252 horsepower.
In 2014, Dongfeng Honda introduced the 9th-generation Civic Si model for domestic sales in the form of CDK. However, in the market environment at that time, the Civic Si as a performance car was not recognized by the market, and ultimately only sold Just over 400 vehicles left. Therefore, Civic Si also withdrew from the Chinese market.
The Honda Civic Si competes with models such as the Golf GTi and Focus ST, while the Civic Type? R competes with the Golf R, Focus RS and other models. However, the Honda Civic Type?R has not been introduced into the Chinese market through official channels, so it has always been worshiped as a "sacred car" in the market.
Whether it is in the Chinese market or the North American market, the Honda Civic is one of the best-selling cars. Since its birth in 1972, the cumulative sales of Civic in the global market have exceeded 25 million units. In the Chinese market, Dongfeng Honda Civic has sold more than 1.3 million units in 14 years since it was produced in China in 2006. Data shows that from January to October this year, the cumulative sales of Dongfeng Honda Civic reached 190,080 units (affected by the suspension of production). Sales in October were 26,842 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 22.2. Civic is currently the best-selling A-class sedan in the Chinese market.
With the arrival of the 11th generation Honda Civic, Civic, whose product strength has been comprehensively improved, will continue to strengthen its competitiveness in the A-class sedan market segment. However, the two new A-class sedans, Aola and Lingshang, which FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota will launch at the 2020 Guangzhou Auto Show, will be potential competition for the 11th-generation Honda Civic in the Chinese market. Dongfeng Honda’s domestically produced 11th-generation Civic is expected to wait until 2022 at the earliest before it can be launched in China. Will its arrival once again set off a whirlwind of "seconds to heaven and seconds to earth"?
