Huawei's solution to the green screen problem is to change the mobile phone. However, after the "green screen door" incident, users know that Huawei's mobile phones mostly use the "Zhou Dongyu arrangement" screen, and there is still the possibility of "screen lottery". In fact, "Zhou Dongyu arrangement" means that the pixel arrangement on the screen is similar to Zhou Dongyu's face. Even actress Zhou Dongyu herself raised this question in the Zhihu.
The word "Zhou Dongyu Arrangement" is known to the public because of Huawei P40 mobile phones, because both normal and high-end mobile phones basically use the "Zhou Dongyu Arrangement" screen, while the top-end version all uses the Samsung "Diamond Arrangement" screen. Just because a mobile phone has two different screens, the mobile phone with "Zhou Dongyu Arrangement" screen always feels a little worse than Samsung, which makes users wonder how much worse "Zhou Dongyu Arrangement" is than Samsung. Why don't other brands use the "Zhou Dongyu Arrangement" screen?
Before deciding which screen display effect is better, we should understand the advantages and disadvantages of each screen arrangement and draw a conclusion. Nowadays, mobile phone screens on the market can basically be divided into LCD screens and organic light-emitting diode screens. The arrangement of LCD screens is very uniform, with RGB pixels, while there are many arrangements of OLED screens, including traditional RGB arrangement, Delta arrangement, diamond Pentile arrangement and BOE arrangement. Because users have a higher pursuit of screen display effect, coupled with the characteristics of low power consumption, fast response, higher contrast, information screen display, flexible folding screen and so on, many brands in flagship machine now adopt organic light-emitting diode screens.
"Zhou Dongyu arrangement" refers to the unique pixel arrangement of BOE screen. Because the arrangement is more like a duck, and it happens to be a bit like Zhou Dongyu himself, everyone calls it "Zhou Dongyu Arrangement" for better understanding.
Although the organic light-emitting diode screen has many advantages, its disadvantage is also very obvious, that is, it is easy to produce "screen burning". As we all know, each pixel of a standard LCD screen consists of three closely connected sub-pixels: red (R), green (G) and blue (B), plus a white (W) pixel. Standard LCD screen can greatly improve the brightness, but it will reduce the screen color expression.
In order to solve the "aging" problem of OLED screens, each screen manufacturer has its own different solutions. By changing the sub-pixel area to avoid the phenomenon of "screen burning", it becomes that each screen manufacturer has different pixel arrangement methods.
At first, Samsung chose to expand the blue and red sub-pixels, which is the Pentile sub-pixel arrangement. Although the service life is prolonged, there will be red and blue "color edges" in the vertical direction of the display, and Pentile arrangement has only 18 sub-pixels, which will reduce the screen PPi and lead to weak display fonts. In order to improve this problem, Samsung finally developed the diamond Pentile arrangement. Diamond pentagonal arrangement divides four sub-pixels into diamond arrangement, and the distance between sub-pixels is closer. Although there is a "color edge", the display effect is clear and sharp, the font is not weak, and the color is more pleasing.
Since the diamond Pentile is arranged so well, why don't other screen manufacturers use it? Because Samsung applied for a patent for this arrangement, as long as it is similar to the diamond Pentile arrangement, it infringes Samsung's patent, while other screen manufacturers can only re-develop new arrangements themselves in order to avoid patents. Of course, the Pentile arrangement of Samsung diamonds also provides ideas for other manufacturers. While adding red and blue sub-pixels, the relationship between sub-pixels is closer, resulting in the pearl arrangement of Huaxing Optoelectronics, the triangular arrangement of Tianma screen and the Zhou Dongyu arrangement of BOE.
The arrangement is similar, but why is Samsung the best? We regard RGB pixels as the number 1, the Delta arrangement is only 0.67, and the "Zhou Dongyu arrangement" is almost 0.7 1. Only Samsung's diamond Pentile ranks highest, with 0.8 1.
In the actual display effect part, we can see that RGB arrangement is the clearest, and other arrangements can't display the whole picture, even the best diamond Pentile arrangement can't display it completely. Let's look at Delta and "Zhou Dongyu arrangement", which can hardly be displayed completely like RGB arrangement, and there are gaps on almost every side, which leads to the lack of pixel details. As a result, the display screen is blurred and can't present real picture details, which is what we often call display weakness.
The difference between different arrangements is especially obvious when displaying the same text. The Chinese character "Yong" is displayed on the screen arranged with Samsung diamond Pentile, and it can be clearly felt that the strokes are very clear, but some strokes are missing and there are more green sub-pixels. The most standard is RGB arrangement, which is clearly visible with one stroke and one painting, and the display is very complete. Delta and "Zhou Dongyu Arrangement" display font strokes are obviously stuck, which leads to unclear display, especially on BOE's screen, with more adhesion and missing details.
By comparing the arrangement between pixels, it is obvious that Samsung's is better, but the "Zhou Dongyu arrangement" is worse. There is no denying that the Pentile arrangement of Samsung Diamond is the best screen arrangement and the best screen at present. Like everyone else, the author, as a consumer, spent five or six thousand dollars to buy a mobile phone, but of course he didn't want to buy a mobile phone with the same price but different configurations. We must resolutely resist Huawei's "screen lottery". Why can't the same money buy the same thing? I'm not saying that "Arranged by Zhou Dongyu" can't work. You can't buy a mobile phone without a Samsung screen, but we can't be "suckers" and manufacturers can't force all users to support and support domestic products.
Of course, the quality of a screen depends not only on the pixel arrangement, but also on the color gamut, color accuracy, refresh rate and post-adjustment of the manufacturer. However, I hope that when Huawei engages in "screen lottery", it can clearly mark the screen supplier on the mobile phone packaging box, instead of letting consumers spend thousands of dollars to open a "blind box".
