Yuan Pan's Outstanding Contribution

Magnetic confinement controlled nuclear fusion is a comprehensive scientific project with high technology and high integration. Yuan Pan has successfully applied the achievements of staged fusion technology to national economic construction and national defense construction.

As the technical director, Yuan Pan led the research on demagnetization of zinc oxide nonlinear resistance and rotor overvoltage protection of large synchronous generator and the field industrial test of power station, which solved the determination of the most serious demagnetization condition, the optimization of zinc oxide multi-component combination, the energy dissipation distribution of generator stator and rotor and other issues. Finally, it was successfully tested and put into operation on the largest 300,000 kW unit of Baishan Hydropower Station. Compared with the low nonlinear silicon carbide demagnetization protection technology adopted abroad, the high-energy zinc oxide nonlinear resistance demagnetization technology is original in China, which can greatly shorten the demagnetization time in the accident state of the generator. This achievement won the second prize of scientific and technological progress of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and related technologies won two national patents. This technology has been widely popularized in large and medium-sized power stations in China, and has played an important role in ensuring the safe operation of large and medium-sized generator sets and even power systems in China.

In charge of the development of 303EMG experimental electromagnetic gun, Yuan Pan put forward an original technical scheme, that is, an all-electromagnetic gun scheme with electromagnetic pinch gun (front stage) and rail gun (main gun) cascaded. 1988, the launch experiment was completed, and the target reached 30.2g mass and 3km/s exit speed. The successful launch of 303EMG experimental electromagnetic gun marks that China has opened up an important field of electromagnetic launch technology and laid a foundation for the research of tactical electromagnetic gun in China. 1989, which won the first prize of scientific and technological progress of China Academy of Sciences.

Yuan Pan is responsible for and systematically studies the compensation pulse generator CPA(Compulsator), and has completed the development of two different models. One is 25MW passive CPA, which has been used to repeatedly launch experimental electromagnetic guns. The other is 10MW cascade compensation CPA, which was developed according to his idea of cascade compensation. The pulse current gain of CPA is nearly two orders of magnitude higher than that of similar devices in the United States, and it has the function of amplitude modulation and frequency modulation, which is not only compact, but also can rely on remanence for self-excitation. This achievement won the China Patent Excellence Award. He also proposed a pulse power supply scheme of continuous electric heating gun with capacitor wave head and CPA as the main transmitter, which has been verified by simulation experiments and obtained an invention patent. Together with his graduate students, he also conducted research on liquid electric pulse plasma and capillary pulse plasma, and published many papers.
