Xiamen Special Economic Zone was established in June 1980, covering an area of 2.5 square kilometers. 1In February, 1984, Xiamen Special Zone was expanded to the whole island, with an area of 13 1 square kilometer, and part of the free port policy was gradually implemented. Subsequently, Xiamen was successively approved to set up three Taiwanese investment zones, namely Haicang, Xinglin and Jimei, Torch High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Xiangyu Bonded Zone and Xiamen Export Processing Zone.
