Tnga patent

Automobile platform is a super complex system engineering. After the arrival of EV era, more and more manufacturers released pure electric vehicle platforms, such as Volkswagen's MEB platform and Hyundai Kia Motors' E-GMP platform.

Although Toyota now has TNGA architecture, it is ahead of the times in the field of hybrid oil and electricity, but it really lags behind in the field of EV. Look at the pure electric vehicles on the market at present, and you can hardly see Toyota. Therefore, Toyota must speed up the development of EV platform.

Last year, Toyota's pure electric platform e-TNGA was released.

Last year, Toyota and Subaru jointly developed the e-TNGA architecture, and cooperated with Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL), BYD (BYD) and Jieshi Tang Qian (GS? Tang Qian? Corporation) and other domestic and foreign power battery industry giants cooperate to accelerate the research and development of pure electric vehicles under Toyota.

What are the characteristics of Toyota e-TNGA platform?

So what are the characteristics of Toyota e-TNGA platform? Compared with the popular MEB platform, the first is high flexibility. It can be found from the figure that the motor design of the front and rear axles of the e-TNGA platform is fixed.

The motor can be replaced to realize different driving forms. The front and rear double motors are four-wheel drive, the front single motor is the precursor, and the rear single motor is the rear drive. Higher performance can be achieved by placing a larger motor.

Except the position of the motor, the width of the battery remains the same, which provides a good convenience for the standardization of the battery.

What can e-TNGA platform change? It is the wheelbase, the width of the car body and the length of the front and rear suspension. Through the changes of these three dimensions, we can actually realize the production of different types of pure electric vehicles such as SUV, MPV and car.

The second feature is that Toyota let Subaru and Suzuki cooperate in research and development. The biggest advantage of cooperative research and development is that it can reduce costs and promote the platform quickly. After enjoying the models of various brands, it can also promote the rapid development of a series of supply chain manufacturers. At the same time, Subaru, Suzuki and Daihatsu, as relatively small manufacturers in Japan, do not have the strength to independently develop pure electric vehicle platforms. Toyota has also promoted the development of the entire pure electric vehicle industry in Japan by enjoying technology.

Looking back at the era of hybrid oil and electricity, Toyota applied for many patents, and it was a monopoly. Look at Toyota's attitude now, and Toyota finally understands that it is difficult for a monopolist to promote the development of the whole industry. Toyota can be said to have created the hybrid era of oil and electricity, and at the same time, with the arrival of the pure electric era, it has seen the gradual end of this era.

The third feature is that in order to promote the e-TNGA platform, Toyota cooperates with Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd. and BYD to develop batteries, which is very different from Volkswagen's MEB platform. In the early stage of development, Volkswagen had to cooperate with contemporary Amperex Technology Co, Limited, LG Chem, SK and other manufacturers, but now Volkswagen has indicated to us whether it mainly built its own factory and developed it by itself, such as taking a stake in Guo Xuan Hi-Tech. This shows that Volkswagen is more ambitious and wants to control the upstream of pure electric vehicles. At present, Toyota mainly relies on battery suppliers, Panasonic is Toyota's main partner, and China manufacturers such as Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd. and BYD are also within the scope of cooperation.

Compared with Volkswagen, is Toyota really one step behind in pure electric vehicles?

Compared with Volkswagen, ID.4 has been listed in Europe. In China, FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC-Volkswagen have established new production lines of MEB platform.

The development of Toyota's pure electric vehicle project is indeed a bit slow, and no real car has been seen so far. However, it is reported that the first car of Toyota e-TNGA platform is a medium-sized SUV, which will be jointly built with Subaru and will be released in 20021year. The compact car will cooperate with Suzuki and Daihatsu. However, as a consumer, I definitely hope that Toyota brand models can be made in China. After all, Subaru and Daihatsu are not made in China.

I think for Toyota, it is finally realized that only mixing is not enough. Although I am aware of it, Toyota's strength cannot be underestimated. Nowadays, the world's top automakers already have pure electric vehicle platforms, and a new round of competition officially kicked off.
