Panerai's Brand History

1860: Panerai Workshop was established. Giovanni Panerai founded a watch shop in Florence: this watch shop is both a shop and a factory, and it is also the first watchmaking school in the city. The history of Panerai began. At the beginning of the 20th century, this watch shop was renamed as "Orologeria Svizzera", and then moved to Palazzo Arcivescovile in Piazza San Sangiovani, which is still the headquarters of Panerai in Florence.

1890/ 1900: Guido Panerai, the grandson of the brand founder, expanded the family business, injected new impetus into it, devoted himself to the highly precise mechanical engineering field and became the official supplier of the Royal Italian Navy.

1900: In the new century, Panerai Store moved to Giovanni Square in Florence.

1915-1918: During the First World War, the Italian Royal Navy adopted precise instruments made by Panerai, including night craft, timing device, sounder and mechanical calculator, to assist the high-speed torpedo launcher (MAS) to launch torpedoes.

19 16: Panerai registered a patent for RADIOMIR. At that time, Panerai had been a supplier of high-precision timing tools to the Royal Italian Navy for many years. According to the requirements of the military, Panerai created Radiomir, a luminescent material based on radium, which is used as a luminescent coating for instruments and dials. Literature on the name "Radiomir" can be found in the appendix of the patent document filed in France on March 23rd, 2006. Its high visibility in water and excellent coating adhesion immediately make this radium-based coating an indispensable material in the production process of Panerai. Radiomir's patent became the first batch of patented technologies developed by Panerai, which opened Panerai's long history of innovation.

1934: Giuseppe and Maria inherited the footsteps of Guido Panerai's father. Maria is in charge of the "Orologeria Svizzera" watch workshop, while Giselle continues to cooperate with the Royal Italian Navy to provide underwater special instruments, flashlights, wrist compasses and wrist depth measurements. The birth of Radiomir and Luminor watches in the future should be attributed to Giselle's efforts.

1936: The first RADIOMIR prototype was born. On the eve of World War II, Panerai developed the first prototype of the "Radiomir" watch, which was used by the frogman troops of the First Submarine Group Command of the Royal Italian Navy. Many functions of this watch are still preserved: wide fine steel pillowcase (diameter 47mm), luminous numbers and time marks, linear lugs welded on the case, manual winding mechanical movement, wide and lengthened waterproof strap, which can be worn outside the diving suit. According to the historical archives of the navy, only 100 prototype tables were produced in 1936.

1938: RADIOMIR, an evolving watch. Radiomir watches with the prototype model characteristics of 1936 were not put into mass production until two years later. In order to make this prototype watch function better, Panerai made many improvements and launched a brand-new Radiomir watch. The new watch has the following characteristics: the double dial with hands and digital time scale on the upper dial enhances the readability and luminous characteristics of radium coating; Straight ears are more durable, with metal rods at both ends welded in the middle of the case. The visibility of the dial under water has also been enhanced. There are striking Arabic numerals and other time scales in the four basic directions, the hour hand and the minute hand, and there is no small second hand.

1940: Radiomir1940 case. The requirements of the Royal Navy have become more demanding: watches must be able to withstand the long-term test of the worst underwater conditions. Therefore, it must have a strong anti-fatigue ability. In order to meet these requirements, the ear was reinforced and the shell was cast into a whole to improve its waterproof performance. Today, some "Radiomir 1940" watches use pillowcases, with obvious edges on both sides. The overall dimensions of each part have been modified, and the crown is connected by a cylindrical (not conical) chain. The special edition of Radiomir 1940, which was launched in Geneva International Haute Couture Salon in 20 12, was inspired by these characteristics.

1943: Our sea watch. Panerai Watch Factory has launched a prototype watch specially designed for naval civilian officers on duty: Marenostrom double dial chronograph. It is said that only two or three watches were produced at that time, and now only some photos can be seen, and one of them was discovered in 2005. Panerai first developed and designed this watch in the 1940s. Half-moon-shaped steel crown protection device prevents seawater from penetrating into the watch case, and at the same time protects the crown seal from being damaged by the first winding stress.

1949: RADIOMIR was replaced by LUMINOR. Luminor can emit light by itself, replacing the original radium coating. This tritium (hydrogen isotope)-based compound was patented on 1949 65438+ 10/month1with the registered trademark "Luminor". Inspired by this new patent, after Radiomir, Panerai developed and launched another classic watch-Luminor watch.

1950: LUMINOR shell. Radiomir completed the evolution to Luminor. After World War II, Panerai continued the technical research at the beginning of the war and perfected the research and development of Luminor. The new Luminor watch is unique because of its crown and bridge protection, and its linear lugs are also strengthened and cast integrally with the case. The case continues the pillow-shaped case of Radiomir 1940 and the flat and wide case frame. Today, the watch in this case is named Luminor 1950.

1956: Panerai developed the "EGIZIANO" wristwatch. Panerai developed a Radiomir watch named "Egiziano" (Egypt) for the Egyptian Navy. This watch has a large size (case diameter 58 mm) and is durable: excellent waterproof performance, equipped with a graduated bezel, which can calculate the diving time. Its unique crown bridge design first appeared on the original model of Panerai, and was also recorded in the archives of the Italian Navy in the same year, which became the classic shape of Luminor model and the iconic feature of Panerai brand.

1956: Panerai was commissioned by the Egyptian Navy to launch a Radiomir watch with an Angelus movement. The watch has an 8-day power reserve and a graduated timer to calculate the diving time every 5 minutes.

1972: The year of the transformation of Panerai. Giuseppe Panerai, son of Gu Duo, died. Dino Zei, an engineer, took over the management of Panerai family business and changed the company name from "G Panerai &; "Figlio" was changed to "Officine Panerai S.r.L", which has appeared in the previous paragraphs. During this period, Panerai has been a secret supplier of the Italian Navy. Long-term supply and research and development of related instruments for the Italian navy, including compass with excellent deep-sea waterproof function, depth gauge worn on wrist and underwater flashlight with pressure compensation, has also opened a new chapter in Panerai.

1980: the prototype of titanium diving is shown, and the pressure-resistant design makes the waterproof depth reach 1000 meters.

1993: Panerai's first limited series. Panerai launched three limited-edition watches for the first time: Luminor, Luminor Marina and Mare Nostrum, all of which were inspired by military watches specially built for World War II, and were sought after by many collectors and people who love Panerai watches. This series was officially unveiled on the Italian Navy cruiser "Durand Drapen" on September 1993, and Duke Amedeo Dhaos Tower attended the ceremony.

1997: Panerai has become an important member of the advanced watchmaking market. Richemont Group (formerly Fanton Group) merged Panerai into its subsidiary, and then established an authorized dealer network in Italy. In the next few years, Panerai emerged in the international high-end watch market. The series includes two models: Luminor and three Luminor Marina. Our sea first appeared in 1993. This time, the watch frame of the new watch is smaller, and the screw-in bottom cover and auxiliary gear are arranged around the time ring.

2000: Panerai designed Luminor subdivider 1000 professional diving watch, which fully conforms to the diving watch specifications of the Swiss watch industry standard (NIHS) and can withstand the seabed pressure of1000 m. The sapphire crystal glass on the surface is 5. 1 mm thick, and the case layer is 3 mm thick, equipped with a special helium valve for decompression.

200 1: Panerai returns to his native land. The Panerai in Sangiovani Square in Florence was reopened after careful renovation. This boutique is a gathering place for fans and collectors of Panerai watches. In addition to the general watch series, the store also collects rare special collections.

2002: Panerai opened a watch factory in Neuchatel, Switzerland. This is a landmark year for Panerai. The brand combines cutting-edge Swiss watchmaking technology, unique design and exquisite craftsmanship. Relying on continuous scientific research and development, Panerai constantly adds new technologies and various functions to product design. Panerai also dared to explore the Asian market, and opened the first boutique in Asia in the landmark building Prince of Hong Kong.

2003: Panerai opens a store in Punofino.

2004: Radiomir series is more outstanding because of the 8-day mode.

This watch is very retro, using the key of modern mechanical watches-the manual winding 8-day energy storage movement that successfully passed the Panerai test. The representative model of 40 years adopts Angelus movement, and the latest model is based on Jaeger-LeCoultre movement, with a case diameter of 45 mm, which complements the exquisite brand patents and the curved outer ring of the case. The screw-in back and crown ensure the waterproof depth of 100 meters.

2005: The first homemade movement P.2002 developed by Panerai is put on the international market: this manual winding movement is equipped with dual-time function and 8-day power storage, similar to the Angelus movement in the 1940s. This movement is named after the year when Panerai founded his own watch factory, paying tribute to this watch brand from Florence.

2006: Panerai presented the brand-new 2006 Panerai and Ferrari watches at the SIHH Geneva Haute Couture Watch Exhibition. Following the launch of the first self-developed movement P.2002 in 2005 and the RADIOMIR 8-day power storage GMT schedule equipped with this self-made movement, Panerai made persistent efforts to launch the Luminor 8-day power storage GMT second schedule equipped with 100% Panerai self-made movement, and created the first watch series Mani Fattur. Manifattura watch series is absolutely loyal to Panerai's quality standards, with solid quality and a combination of precise technical performance and unique watch style.

In addition to Panerai's new models, another striking series is the Ferrari model series specially built for Ferrari car factory. The shape design of Ferrari watches carefully refers to the details of engine machinery and body lines, revealing the distinctive style of Ferrari sports cars. Ferrari models are divided into two series: Granturismo and Scuderia. Granturismo series is full of elegant sports style; Scuderia series highlights the strong and dynamic racing elements. Both series of watches fully present exquisite sports style and excellent technical connotation.

2007: Panerai introduces a brand-new homemade movement. Panerai has introduced three brand-new homemade movements: P.2003, P.2004 and innovative P.2005, which are completely designed and developed by themselves. P.2005 is equipped with the exquisite tourbillon specially made by Panerai Watch Factory, which perfectly integrates its sophisticated watchmaking tradition and realizes device innovation. In fact, the frame of the balance wheel and the escapement mechanism rotating around the axis are not parallel to the balance wheel axle, but perpendicular to it. Unlike the traditional tourbillon, the Panerai tourbillon frame rotates every 30 seconds, while the traditional tourbillon frame rotates every 65,438+0 minutes.

2008: Panerai introduces P.9000 and P.2006 movements. Both movements are developed and produced by this watch brand from Florence. P.9000 movement with 72-hour power reserve is installed in Luminor 1950 and Radiomir series models, and P.2006 movement is evolved from P.2004 single-button timing movement, with the addition of subsection timing function, which can be controlled by the second button at 10.

2009: Panerai and its infinite love for the ocean. In order to express its love for the sea, Panerai plans to rebuild the 1936 Bermuda double-track ship Eilean built by the legendary Fife Shipyard. It took three years to repair Irene. With the exquisite craftsmanship of Francesco Del Carlo Shipyard in viareggio, Elaine regained her former glory. After 40,000 hours' work, the launching ceremony of Eilean was held on 10/22 October, and the place was chosen in the sailing channel of the Italian navy in Xiha, Raspe. The reissue of Egiziano reflects Panerai's love for this watch. Egiziano was specially made for the Egyptian navy in 1956.

20 10: tribute to Galileo. To pay tribute to Galileo's first major invention 400 years ago, Panerai released three watches to commemorate the Tuscan genius: L'Astronomo, Lo Scienziato and Jupiter. Panerai's Jupiter prototype watch is a planetary watch. According to the principle of gravity, its perpetual calendar shows the relationship between the sun, the moon, Saturn and other Galileo satellites, especially the four main satellites. Thanks to the invention of the telescope, Galileo discovered the Galileo satellite in 16 10. Panerai released the self-made movement P.999 and the first Panerai composite watch at the International Advanced Watch Salon.

20 1 1: Panerai launches bronze watches. Luminor Subtle 1950 3-day automatic Bronzo is a limited edition launched by Panerai, in which retro elements are used for the first time, especially marine factors with deep roots in Panerai. Panerai P.3000 self-made movement is a further interpretation of Panerai brand watchmaking technology. Panerai opened a third store in Paul Harper, Florida.

20 12: Pay tribute to the past: Panerai introduces two RADIOMIR models with the classic 1940 case. Panerai re-launched its unique classic case and two specially customized Radiomir 1940. Different from the prototype model and the model produced in the late 1930s, the lugs of the Radiomir case partially produced in the 1940s are not made of traditional welded steel wires, but are integrally cast with the case, which is more firm and waterproof. The new Radiomir 1940 model re-uses the classic dial with a diameter of 47 mm, and other functions inspired by historical models: plexiglass? Protected dial, round bezel and cylindrical crown. (Panerai is not plexiglass? The owner of the trademark.
