Are MediaTek's processors really bad?

MediaTek, also known as MTK, is mostly used in low-end mobile phones. Currently, only Xiaomi, ZTE, Huawei, Sony and other well-known mobile phones use this model, such as Nokia. MOTO, HTC, and Apple are all useless, so it feels like a copycat. This is one of the few 4-core CPUs in the world that only has mobile 3G. This CPU is also an ARM-licensed CPU. It is very cost-effective but has issues such as compatibility. Although the A7 architecture is not as good as the A15, it is not bad. It is better than Qualcomm's high-end dual-core 8960. The disadvantage is the power consumption issue.

MTK’s current market strategy is cost-effective, while Qualcomm’s is high-performance. Using Tian Ji’s horse racing model, Qualcomm cannot take advantage of it. Of course, high-end mobile phone platforms are still dominated by Qualcomm. This model will not be available in the 3G era. It has changed, but in the 4G era, it is a bit uncertain. In the 3G era, Qualcomm could make a lot of money even by charging patent fees. In the 4G era, everyone's starting point is almost the same.

1. MediaTek not only sells chips but also provides supporting software services, the so-called turn-key model. This is currently unrivaled in the industry, which is why some manufacturers with limited capabilities like to adopt it. MediaTek's mobile phone solution has low development costs and fast mass production. Currently, Qualcomm is also taking this path. The QRD content is similar to the Turn-Key mode.

2. The positioning of the two mobile phone chips is slightly different. Although they have been competing for each other's market, Qualcomm's mobile phone chips focus on high performance, while MediaTek's mobile phone chips focus on low power consumption, so MediaTek's mobile phone chips are more economical. For electricity, Qualcomm's high-end chips have more powerful functions and performance, but for products of the same level, MediaTek's mobile phone chip products are better. Currently, MediaTek's mobile phone chips are mainly mid-to-high-end. The 4-core MT6589 launched this year is also in this position and is used to replace MT6577. products, but the price of the entire platform can be controlled at around 1,500 RMB, and the manufacturer’s development time only takes 2 months.
