Analysis:
IPTV is to add a broadband interface to high-definition digital TV, so that users can easily sit on the sofa and press the remote control to surf the Internet through TV, thus completing a series of services such as interactive online games, video chat, sending and receiving emails, etc. It was not until165438+1October 7th that the relevant personnel of the Institute of Telecommunications revealed to the media that the IPTV China standard was expected to be officially promulgated before the end of the year, so that the chaotic IPTV market could see a glimmer of light again.
A few days ago, Shanghai Wenguang won the first license, and Telecom Netcom attacked the city, and three modes were scuffled in Shanghai. Every related news will cause a heated discussion in the industry. The scuffle in Shanghai is actually a microcosm of the national IPTV development ecological map, and the IPTV market is currently in some confusion.
Operators and equipment manufacturers are actively preparing for the war.
The main reason for the confusion is that the official standard of IPTV has not yet been issued, but all parties have stepped up competition like gambling.
Operators of radio, television and telecommunications compete for transmission channels and need hardware to build them, so major equipment manufacturers are also smiling and wandering among operators in order to get a piece of the action.
If the operator wants to test, the equipment manufacturer must deliver the product. If the operator decides to try out the products of a certain equipment manufacturer for free, it means that this equipment manufacturer has some opportunities.
"It is a strategy to send equipment for testing for free." Some insiders pointed out. Because according to experience, the network transformation and network upgrade in the later stage of the telecom market are very exclusive, and the equipment procurement in the early stage will greatly affect the equipment procurement in the later stage of the network upgrade.
"Participating in testing will bring many opportunities to equipment manufacturers. Of course, there are great risks when opportunities come. " Liu Lei, an analyst at Analysys International, said.
At present, there are more than 18 domestic equipment vendors who claim to have a full range of IPTV products. IPTV can bring huge profits, and they have public relations on various occasions. Some people in equipment manufacturers say that the work done by equipment manufacturers has gone far beyond the scope of their obligations.
Because of the different strengths and strategies, the position of IPTV equipment vendors in the industrial chain has also undergone subtle changes.
"It is inevitable that some small companies will be dragged down," Sun Ichiro, chairman and CEO of equipment manufacturer Huasi Technology, told the media a few days ago.
CCTV adopts foreign standards.
The road to unification of IPTV standards is difficult.
Recently, it was reported that although AVS, the technical standard of digital audio and video coding and decoding with independent intellectual property rights in China, has been supported by domestic TV and other hardware manufacturers, the digital TV channel that CCTV started broadcasting soon used the foreign MPEG-2 standard.
AVS is one of the technical coding standards supporting IPTV. It plays a very important role in the whole IPTV industry chain.
AVS, the technical coding standard of IPTV, was abandoned by domestic TV giants, and the fact that CCTV abandoned the national standard and adopted foreign standards put domestic digital TV in an embarrassing situation.
Even more embarrassing is the domestic standard AVS working group. After CCTV adopted foreign standards for a period of time, the AVS working group stood up and said that the current adoption of MPEG-2 by CCTV does not mean giving up AVS. The AVS working group indicated that if China adopts foreign standards, it will follow the footsteps of DVD and pay at least 654.38+0 billion RMB patent fees every year.
On the question of whether domestic products are mature, Huang Tiejun, a researcher at Institute of Computing, Chinese Academy of Sciences and secretary-general of AVS Working Group, said, "If AVS is not given a chance, there will be no chance for China standards to really operate in its own country. How can it be mature? "
After CCTV adopted foreign standards, Zhang Weimin, secretary general of AVS, told the media that AVS has been reported to the Ministry of Information Industry, with the goal of becoming the national recommended standard for source coding and decoding this year.
But at present, it seems that the defection of CCTV has brought more tense air to the chaotic IPTV market.
