The World Intellectual Property Indicators report covers more than 15 countries and regions around the world. According to the report, in 219, the number of patent applications accepted by China National Intellectual Property Administration in China was 1.4 million, down by 1.8% compared with 218, which was the first decline in the past 24 years. This was mainly due to the overall regulatory transformation in China to optimize the application structure and improve the application quality.
"The number of patent applications in China has dropped for the first time in 24 years, which is a positive signal." Professor Sun Guorui, president of the Beijing Intellectual Property Research Association and director of the Institute of Intellectual Property and Science and Technology Law of Beihang University, told the Science and Technology Daily reporter in an interview on December 15 that with the rapid development of economy and society and the increasingly active innovation activities, the number of patent applications in China has maintained rapid growth for many years. "But we also see that the huge number of applications has brought great pressure to the administrative examination and approval departments, and the quality of patents is mixed, including a large number of useless patents."
