In 2011, Apple applied for a virtual SIM card patent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Apple claims that the patent allows users to directly access wireless network services provided by operators without using a SIM card. In the United States, iPhone has completely used esim virtual cards, completely eliminating the physical SIM card slot. In the iPhone 14 US version series of devices, the card slot has been removed.
