Supai patent

America's brand-new sagitar, Tiguan L and Touran are all 8AT. Why did they all change the DSG after they came to China?

Due to market orientation, most people in the United States will not choose dual-clutch models, and the sales volume is very low. Manufacturers will lose market share because of the adoption of dual-clutch gearbox, which is not worth the loss.

Volkswagen is not a mainstream brand in the United States, or a second-rate brand, and has no greater right to speak. Of course, we must follow suit, otherwise we may lose the final market share.

In addition, the regulatory authorities and mechanisms of the American auto market are very strong and the safety standards are very high. Needless to say, if a car has product defects, it may be fined more than decades of income, and manufacturers absolutely dare not take this risk.

On the other hand, in the domestic market, the public occupies a dominant position. Before the double clutch went wrong, it was advertised as a much more advanced gearbox than AT. After the accident, public opinion was quickly controlled and the public lost little. The reliability and smoothness of that wet dual-clutch gearbox are greatly improve.

Mainstream view: Volkswagen used cheap and inferior goods to deceive Chinese people because of its favor and the late start of the domestic automobile market, while the United States has a sound legal system and severe penalties, which the public can't afford and can only use more expensive and better ones. This view has many supporters, but in my opinion, this view is untenable. You know, Audi, which has a higher brand positioning than Volkswagen, is treated in the gearbox exactly the same as in China. Except for Q7, A8L, S4 and a few other models with vertical 8AT, the rest are dual clutches, including the brand-new A6, A7 and Q5 which have just been listed. Cheap Volkswagen uses 8AT, and expensive Audi uses dual clutch in a large area.

But from the consumer's point of view, I don't care if your manufacturer is struggling to develop dual clutch. Nothing can be a reason for you to fool consumers by launching a bad car. Since Volkswagen chose to take the boat of dual clutch, enjoying the benefits of low hardware cost, simple structure and low requirements for machining accuracy, you should make more efforts in software adjustment to let consumers drive a family car with comprehensive performance that does not lose the mainstream level of at and CVT. This is especially true for those autonomous dual clutches that are much worse than the public.
