Why did it become a "leopard"? BYD Seal Test Drive

At the moment when the entire automobile industry is accelerating the transformation to electrification, there are a wide range of new energy vehicles with various configurations, and consumers are gradually losing their eyes. The selling point of vehicles is becoming more and more "homogeneous", and behind every new term is mostly "changing the soup without changing the medicine" or a big gathering of various suppliers. Smart cars do bring us many surprises and conveniences, but smart cars need not only intelligence, but also core automobile technology.

And that's why we want to share this "leopard" model with you today. This "Leopard" model comes from BYD Seal, the first pure electric medium-sized car under BYD Ocean Network. BYD is the leader of new energy vehicles in China, and this seal is the masterpiece of BYD's latest e-platform 3.0. It adopts a number of innovative technologies developed by BYD, including four "first rides": CTB battery body integration technology, iTAC intelligent torque distribution technology, rear drive/four-wheel drive power architecture, front double wishbone/rear five-bar suspension. Moreover, these four technologies are all carried on BYD models for the first time. In particular, the first two "first shots" are definitely hard skills! How good are these technical performances? Let's talk about sales first. So far, it has only been on the market for two months, but the order volume of seals has exceeded 80,000 (the data ends at Chengdu Auto Show in 2022)! So, why is it so recognized by consumers? Let's get on the bus and feel it together!

Appearance: the ocean breath comes to my face, quiet and distant.

I believe everyone will be attracted by the appearance of BYD seal when they first see it. The design concept of "marine aesthetics" is more thorough in seals, and the design team led by Wolfgang Eiger is really very attentive. There is no need to explain too much, just look at the curves and ripples of its body lines and the headlights named "Serene double U suspended headlights". The "corrugated" lamp can feel the rolling waves in the sea, which not only has high recognition, but also strengthens the momentum of the front face of Ocean X.

Seals are highly integrated design based on E platform 3.0, which can give designers more freedom, so seals have shorter front and rear suspension compared with other products, which also makes the lines on the side of their cars look more beautiful and streamlined. Its body length is 4800mm, the wheelbase is 2920mm, and the ratio of axle length reaches a perfect 0.6 1. It is a beautiful sports coupe with low front hatch cover, inclined A-pillar, wavy double waistline and slightly upturned duck tail shape.

I especially like the decorative design of D-pillar triangular window, like the superposition of water drops, and the marine elements are really reflected everywhere in this seal.

The tail design of seals is also worth tasting. Still inspired by water droplets, the "sea-sky first-line penetrating water droplet taillight" is very eye-catching, surrounded by water droplet dot matrix lights, like a few stars, and with the bright chrome trim around it, it is very recognizable whether it is opened during the day or at night. The design of the diffuser adopts a large-area black diversion structure, which not only effectively reduces the wind resistance, but also makes the seal look more like a racing car.

Interior: Exquisite, and the ocean atmosphere is still strong.

Different from the feeling that the exterior gives you a sporty atmosphere everywhere, the interior atmosphere is warmer. You are familiar with BYD's classic self-adaptive rotating central control panel, and there is also a well-designed "wave-chasing" dashboard. The dashboard, the sub-dashboard and the steering wheel are all decorated with laser laser engraving texture, which looks fashionable and scientific. There are ergonomic waves around the sports seat, and there are all kinds of leather, suede materials, workmanship and stitching. And they all show a sense of exquisiteness.

If you think the three-position steering wheel looks ordinary, but look at its shape carefully, hey, isn't this the tail fin of a seal? Look, how ingenious this design is.

There are still many places in this design idea. For example, what I like most about the interior is the periphery of the gear handle. Although that small crystal handle is very eye-catching, and this handle is made of aluminum with dense teeth, is it very industrial? But if you look at the curve around it carefully, is it very similar to Guangzhou's "small waist"? This is the central control layout officially called "in the heart of the sea". It takes the crystal gear handle as the core and is surrounded by a group of mechanical buttons, including start button, power mode selection, air conditioning, audio control and other common functions. It is more practical and convenient than focusing on the big screen.

Configuration: everything.

BYD Seal's in-vehicle system still uses DiLink intelligent network connection system, and the UI design has been fully optimized, and the touch sensitivity and fluency of the screen have been further improved. The intelligent voice control function has also been further enhanced, but the continuous voice input recognition needs to be improved in the use process. By the way, it also has a full-scene karaoke system, comparable to a five-star KTV with Dana audio, and you will find that even the design around the audio is an ocean element. Do you like shark fin?

In addition to the 10.25 inch full LCD instrument panel, Seal also has a head-up display system, which can project important driving information such as vehicle speed, speed limit, navigation, LDW, ACC, Bluetooth phone, etc. onto the front windshield to improve the driver's safety.

The automatic driving assistance function will not be absent. Seals are equipped with BYD's DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system, which can provide many practical functions, such as lane keeping assistance, traffic sign recognition, collision prediction and early warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, intelligent far and near light assistance system and so on.

Of course, there are other configurations, such as dual wireless charging in the front row, heating and ventilation in the front seat, zoning air conditioning, various USB interfaces in the front and rear rows, and retractable stereoscopic sunshade as standard for panoramic sunroof. Basically, you have all the configurations you want.

Motivation: the reaction is direct, fast, accurate and stable, and CTB technology is commendable.

First of all, we have to explain one of the "first riding" technologies mentioned at the beginning of the article, CTB, which is Cell to Body, that is, battery body integration technology. Simply put, the upper cover of the battery pack and the floor of the car body are combined into one. The advantage of this is that the "blade battery" is integrated into the structure of the whole vehicle, which is not only the energy provider, but also the structural part, thus contributing to the torsional stiffness of the car body, reaching 40,500 nm/. The improvement of torsional stiffness means that the vehicle can obtain better handling limit, and with the iTAC intelligent torque control technology on the seal for the first time, the driver can drive more calmly and practically, and can truly understand the chassis limit and suspension feedback, and the handling is more calm.

In addition, due to the adoption of CTB technology, the weight of the whole vehicle is reduced by 10kg, and the height of the car body is reduced by 10mm, which greatly improves the efficiency of space use, so it has a relatively low sports shape. Of course, the benefits of CTB technology are not limited to these. For example, CTB technology of seals has increased the stiffness of passenger compartment floor by 13 times; The safety of battery monomer protection against side impact is also improved by 45%, the system volume utilization rate of power battery is improved by 66%, and the system energy density is improved by 10%. The vertical force transmission of the battery pack is improved by 83%, and the internal structural safety is improved by 50%, which obviously improves the endurance, NVH and safety of the seal.

The model we got is BYD Seal 700KM long battery life rear-drive version, and the official subsidy price is 259,800 yuan. Other models are 550km standard endurance rear-wheel drive version and four-wheel drive performance version, and the price of the four models is 209,800-286,800 yuan.

Let's take a look at the test drive data of this model first. Matching the blade battery with the capacity of 82.5kWh, the acceleration of 0- 100km/h is 5.9 seconds. The maximum output power is 230kW and the maximum torque is 360Nm, which appropriately reflects the dynamic performance of the six-cylinder engine and should be the most promising version of this car series.

Although many models of BYD have been driven, it is the first time for BYD with rear drive. When you start, you can get enough power to follow the car by lightly stepping on the pedal of the switch, which will not give people a particularly abrupt feeling. If you step on the switch deeply, this rear drive seal can give you a sense of pushing back and full of stamina. In fact, in the performance of power output, seal is very close to the output mode of fuel vehicles, and the power comes very linearly.

The foot feel of braking is also good, and the braking stroke is short and linear. Even when accelerating or braking suddenly, you can feel the whole body, and the suspension suppresses the pitching of the body well. Of course, this is due to the independent suspension of the front double wishbone and the rear five-link common in luxury cars, which makes the tracking and support of the body get a good performance, but the overall feeling is still relatively comfortable.

If you want to drive more aggressively, you can adjust the driving mode to sports, and the speed will be faster. & lta class = " hidden " href = "/oceanx/" title = " seal " da
