How to refer to literature citations

The correct method of reference citation:

(1) referenced documents should be updated.

Whether the cited documents are novel or not reflects the advanced nature of the paper to some extent. Therefore, when writing scientific research papers, we should quote the latest literature as much as possible. Of course, the old literature that has made pioneering contributions in this field can also be cited appropriately, but it is absolutely not appropriate to have too many. The results of bibliometrics research show that the Liprice index is above 50% in most periods. Therefore, when writing a paper, the author should quote as many documents as possible within five years, at least not less than 50%.

(2) Cite high-quality literature.

The quality of cited references reflects the academic level of the paper to a certain extent, and generally reflects the practicality, practicality and advancement of the paper. This requires the author to pay attention to reading and accumulating the literature of authoritative medical journals and authoritative experts.

(3) References should be complete.

References must be comprehensive, and relevant research results at home and abroad should be cited as comprehensively as possible. This requires us to give consideration to Chinese and foreign references and give priority to foreign references when quoting references. However, while citing a large number of foreign documents, we can't ignore some important domestic documents related to research.

Although the overall level of medical research in China is low, some scholars have made pioneering or significant contributions in the field of medical research at home and abroad. These well-known domestic experts and scholars are often employed as editors and reviewers of relevant professional journals. Therefore, while quoting a large number of foreign documents, it is very beneficial to quote the documents of these experts and scholars properly for the paper to pass the review smoothly.

(4) Increase the amount of self-cited documents.

There are two kinds of self-citation documents, one is self-citation by authors, and the other is self-citation by periodicals. Self-citation by authors means that authors cite their previously published papers as reference documents, and self-citation by journals means that journals cite previously published documents. For example, the papers published by an author in Chinese Journal of Internal Medicine, and all the documents cited in Chinese Journal of Internal Medicine are self-cited.

The author's self-citation can at least show editors and reviewers that the author's research in this field has been serialized and deepened, which is easy to gain the trust of editors and reviewers and will be very beneficial to the publication of the paper. The number of times a periodical is cited is an aspect to evaluate its quality and practicality, and it is also an important index to measure its social benefits and the value of literature information.

Therefore, editors like to edit and distribute more papers that cite the magazine. If the author wants to contribute to any periodical, he must pay attention to the references of this periodical.

(5) Cite more periodicals and less books and documents.

The results of bibliometrics research show that periodical literature has the highest citation times, accounting for more than 70%~80% of the total cited literature. The most typical characteristics of periodical literature are new content and high scientific research value, while books and literature, especially teaching materials, tend to be mature and fixed in theoretical views, but their contents are outdated and of little scientific research value.

Therefore, when writing medical papers, we must cite as many periodical documents as possible, and less or no books and documents. Of course, you can also quote some monographs with great academic value, but not too many. Pay attention to the appropriate citation of the latest patent documents and papers.

(6) The cited references should be faithful to the original.

Citation is a reference to this file, and we should learn from it in the theory of retaining the original file. The author has no right to change the original intention of the original author, just introduce the methods, results and conclusions used by the original author. The author can express his opinions on the methods, results and conclusions used by the original author, but he cannot change them at will, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

If you want to be faithful to the original, the best way is to read the original carefully before using it, correctly understand the author's original intention, and try not to quote it, so as not to harm the original author, readers and yourself.

(7) Attention should be paid to the description format of references.

Because the description format of references varies from journal to journal, the author should pay attention to the relevant provisions of periodical contract before submitting a manuscript, at least look at how the references published in relevant journals are marked first, so as to understand the description format of references in relevant journals and avoid mistakes. The writing format of many authors' contributions, including the description format of references, is different from that required by magazines. Frankly speaking, editors and reviewers are human beings, and there are also some emotional factors in their work.

If you get a paper with unsatisfactory writing format, not to mention anything else, it is enough to leave a bad impression on the editor and even let the editor make a decision to reject it. Even if it is not rejected in the end, this kind of manuscript is much less likely to be hired than the manuscript with standardized writing format.

In fact, the author made a very low-level mistake and naturally reminded the editor that the author did not respect the journal, nor did he respect the editors and peer reviewers of the journal. Therefore, the author must pay attention to the description method of periodical references before submitting the manuscript, so as to avoid unnecessary negative influence.
