Compared with the growth of utility model and design patent applications, the number of invention patent applications in China has maintained a rapid growth momentum in recent years. In the first half of this year, China accepted nearly 200,000 patent applications, of which invention patent applications accounted for 38.6% of all patent applications, while utility model and design patent applications only accounted for 29.8% and 3 1.6% respectively. However, judging from the composition of invention patent applications at home and abroad, from June to June this year, there were 37,833 domestic applications and 39,407 foreign applications. Although the number of domestic applications is slightly lower than that of foreign applications, it has shown a good development trend. With the improvement of innovation ability and intellectual property awareness of domestic enterprises, the possibility of catching up with or even exceeding the number of foreign applications will continue to increase. It is worth noting that service invention patent applications account for an increasing proportion of invention patent applications. In the first half of this year, service inventions accounted for 65% of domestic invention patent applications, an increase of 4.6 percentage points over the same period of last year, and foreign patent applications continued to focus on service inventions.
The increase in the number of invention patent applications reflects that the society is paying more and more attention to patents with higher gold content, wider coverage and greater protection. The conditions of invention patent authorization are obviously stricter than other patent applications, and the outstanding substantive characteristics are required, which is significantly improved compared with the existing technology before the application date. This strict authorization condition also shows that the application for a patent for invention can best reflect the applicant's research and development ability and technical level. In view of the increasing number of invention patent applications in China, we should keep a clear head and pay more attention to and develop those original and basic invention patents, which is the real independent intellectual property right.
